On Monday, Twitter user @Toffifay76 stirred up some hot internet drama by posing a question to her followers: “Fleetwood Mac or Chicago?”

The straightforward choice between the two beloved rock groups went viral, and has since racked up more than 1,700 likes and 4,200 responses.

“Chicago!!!!!” voted one enthused devotee of the “If You Leave Me Now,” and “You’re the Inspiration,” artists. “I know ppl will unfollow but I have always hated Stevie Nicks. Her voice is like a fog horn… Don’t @ me!!” “Fleetwood Mac (BEFORE Buckingham & Nicks) was one of the three greatest English blues/rock guitar/guitarist song factories in history,” voted an opposing listener.

The so-called “enthused devotee” is definitely not a Chicago fan.

Now talk tunes like Introduction, Free Form Guitar, even Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon and that would be more like it . . .

Leonid and Friends and Brit Floyd can keep two bands front and center for another decade or two.

Gotta go with FWM. I always found Chicago’s sound overbearing. But I respect their success and talent. I guess I’m not into the horns.

But both are far down the list behind Led Zeplin, The Who, The Beatles, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, Guns N’ Roses, to name a few...

Key Arena has been renamed 'Climate Pledge Arena' awaiting the new NHL hockey team, the Kraken, lol.

In '73 the venue was called the Seattle Center Coliseum.

Both were great bands with real creativity and passion.

Chicago was earlier, and they pursued different musical visions IMHO.

Chicago was produced — and some might say invented — by James William Guercio, who was looking for a jazz-rock fusion sound, possibly one of the first to do so, at least in the pop domain. He was producing The Buckinghams before BS&T came out with their first album.

The Buckinghams were also from Chicago. I mean the city.

Yes, I agree on Chicago. LOVED the brass in their music. I did see Fleetwood Mac in concert, before they made it “BIG”.

While Fleetwood Mac was a good band, no comparison to Chicago, especially the early albums, Chicago was a Improv type band with a great sound.

How about Terry Kath vs Lindsey Buckingham? Terry for me but Lindsey is good too.

Thank you. I could not remember, but knew it was “advertiser free”. Also, back then I saw Heart and The Who in the same place. I saw Grand Funk in the other “arena”, though. I wonder what they call it now.

The new name is hilarious. And knowing Seattle, it’s not satire.

Not even close—Chicago—Terry Kath 1968-1978 era—. First concert I saw—1977 New Haven Coliseum 1977—
Jimi Hendrix said Terry Kath was the best guitarist he ever saw-—
The first 5 albums are serious classics-still listen to them all the time.

I thought Chicago was a JAZZ group.

And Fleetwood Mac went from a blues rock band to a pop/adult contemporary act.

Free Form Guitar does about as much for me as You’re the inspiration.

I could listen to Introduction all day.

Doesn’t take much to “go viral” anymore.

It will always be “Chicago Transit Authority.”

How can the have such a debate without throwing Blood, Sweat and Tears into the mix?

This is news.

This ain’t your daddy’s or momma’s FR anymore, unfortunately.

This place is chock full of trolls, Karens, and post/language cops. It’s actually becoming quite revolting, at times.

Chicago was earlier, and they pursued different musical visions IMHO.

They both started the same year. Fleetwood Mac had early success in the U.K. as a different kind of band than when they reaches success in the U.S.
