TAMPA (WFLA) — The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver who was found dead in his hotel room earlier this week may have been dead for three days when he was found, according to a preliminary medical examiner’s report.
Former wide receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead at the Homewood Suites on Palm River Road in Brandon on Feb. 15.
A preliminary report from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Department says staff members at the hotel went into Jackson’s room on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 and found him sitting slouched over on the couch and assumed he was sleeping.
The report says the staff members went into Jackson’s room again the morning of Feb. 15 and “were concerned when they found [him] in the same position.” The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said earlier this week a housekeeper found Jackson dead in his hotel room around 11:30 a.m.
Jackson’s family had reported him missing on Feb. 10. According to the new report, the last time deputies confirmed Jackson was alive was on Feb. 11 when they were called to check on him. But the sheriff’s office says deputies canceled the missing persons report after checking on Jackson at the hotel on Feb. 12.
The preliminary report from the medical examiner reiterates what the sheriff’s office said earlier this week that there were no signs of trauma. The medical examiner’s office is still working to determine Jackson’s exact cause of death.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Crystal Clark said Wednesday that family members indicated Jackson had suffered from chronic alcoholism and concussions, but made clear the investigation into his cause of death was not complete.
“It could be several weeks before we know what led to the untimely and tragic death of Vincent Jackson. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office continues to conduct a thorough investigation alongside the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office,” she said. “Based on statements made by relatives of Jackson to detectives, his family had reason to believe he may have suffered from chronic alcoholism and concussions, however, the exact cause and manner of Mr. Jackson’s death will not be certain until his autopsy, among other reports, is complete.”
Jackson’s family spokesperson confirmed to WFLA that they have donated his brain for a study on C.T.E., a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma.
“Vincent being who he was would have wanted to help as many people as possible,” said Allison Gorrell, a spokeswoman for the Jackson family said in a phone interview with the New York Times on Wednesday. “It’s something his family wanted to do to get answers to some of their questions.”
Almost all articles are crummy these days. The local ones are the worst. I would have failed English if I wrote the crap these local journalist’s write that don’t answer even the most basic questions.
No, not with COVID. You have to request service.
Jackson was a very decent man, who used his personal foundation to support cops and troops and their families. He was even made a Tampa deputy by the Sheriff. RIP.
He was alive and responding when the Deputies checked up on him? I’m assuming he was but the reportage doesn’t make it clear.
Yes, the maids saw him and thought he was asleep....................
El negro esta durmiendo.
con los ojos cerrados..................
That tells you how much traveling I have done since this virus started.
That’s why I slouch in a recliner instead of a couch.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - That Smell (Lyrics HD)
Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you’re in my way
There’s too much coke and too much smoke
Look what’s going on inside you
Ooooh that smell
Can’t you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Angel of darkness is upon you
Stuck a needle in your arm
So take another toke, have a blow for your nose
And one more drink fool, will drown you
Ooooh that smell
Can’t you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Now they call you Prince Charming
Can’t speak a word when you’re full of ‘ludes
Say you’ll be all right come tomorrow
But tomorrow might not be here for you
Ooooh that smell
Can’t you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Hey, you’re a fool, you (2:30)
Go on stick them needles…
Maid doesn’t have a nose?
Probably used to it.....................
With many cases it is a method of self medicating. The buzz relieves the headache then the hangover brings the headache back.
How old was he?
How long did he play in the NFL?
How many concussions?
Any drug arrests?
Any other health problems?
Why were the police called to ‘check up’ on him?
How do these people get/keep their jobs as a writer?
VJ was 38 years old, playing 9 years total, 5 with the Chargers and 4 with the Buccaneers. No drug arrests, no known health problems (other than alcoholism), police were called regarding him as missing person. The police department spoke with him, and rescinded the missing person alert. As with most football players, the number of concussions they suffered while playing is an unknown.
