Your favourite Rush memories
Youtube ^ | 18th February 2021 | Ennis85

I recently came across this clip from the Clinton Years of Rush calling out said President's crocodile tears during the Ron Brown memorial service which did bring a much needed smile to my face.

Now that we're looking back on his life, I thought would be a good time to ask people here for their favourite Rush moments that hold dear to them. Whether he made you laugh or stoked passion in you

“ The politically correct football picks!”

I totally forgot about those. Those were classic! Such a good memory.

“More fun than a human being is allowed to have.”

Thanks Rush.

It would be so wonderful if Donald J Trump could be a guest host

I remember waking up at some ridiculous hour to watch his TV show because the network gave him the worst time slot they could.

I really liked the line of neck ties that he had back at the beginning, with a great slogan - “They’re all power ties.”

“He taught us all how to die with grace.”

That is VERY true. He said quite a few times he never expected to see his 70th birthday and he was so grateful to God for making that milestone. He was so totally at peace with his disease and pending demise— it astonished me the grace and aplomb he evidenced.

Years ago I would drive my dad up to the family vacation home in New England, usually on a week day. Dad knew where all the Rush stations were for the trip. When the New York station faded out, he would tune in the Providence station, then the Boston station.

Those road trips are some of my fondest memories. Me and Dad, and Rush on the radio.

And when Rush wrapped up at 3 pm, Howie Carr came on in the Boston market. He was fun, too.

I taped it.

Mid-’90s. I was working/living out of college far away from home, alone. I couldn’t watch at 3:00.

So, just used the VCR.

I don’t know why but I especially remember in 1999 when Rush discussed the plane crash of John F. Kennedy Jr. - he explained everything in clear, concise language - with compassion as well during such a difficult and sad time.

Also the humor, always the humor- the parodies, the songs...

Been a hard day. Had a meltdown in the waiting area while having my car worked on, I’ve been crying off and on all day. I feel as if I lost a family member today, and, in reality, I did.

He had some guy going out doing man on the street interviews on his TV show. The guy could find some absolute knucklehead leftists that made for good entertainment.

Another memory - Deficit spending awareness ribbons made from dollar bills.

I also remember that he wa always being accused of telling his listeners to call their reps, and he was never doing it. Finally, he had enough of it and told everyone to call to show what would happen - it shut the switchboard down for a few hours.

No problem. Rush always brought his personal passions to the show. Golf, cigars.... the Abyssinians, Punkin and ? The sheepdogs, Abby and Wellesley. Might have been the Marta years. The line of neckties....

My husband worked with the mother of one of Rush’s sound guys - Rush used to yell out his name constantly. The son spoke to Rush and Rush signed an autographed copy with my husband’s name on it, was supposed to have MY name on it b/c I’m the super-fan.

Will have to dig it out...

The Clinton years were golden with Rush

Also the Paul Shanklin parodies and songs that Rush played constantly during that era. Paul's voice sounded EXACTLY like Clinton's and the songs were funny as h*** and first-rate.

I still have the cassette tapes somewhere...

To: The people have spoken

That phrase was taken from a LA Times black editorialist. It may have been Earl Ofari Hutchinson or someone else well known. Rush was pilloried like he was some huge racist.

Same with his football quote that the NFL was desperate for black quarterbacks to succeed. These Statements were not his own opinions.

I don’t think I will ever again be able to listen to Mannheim Steamroller’s Silent Night without thinking of Rush. I usually listen to the podcast of his show later in the day, but would always tune in to his last show before Christmas just to hear him play that.

The Jocelyn Elders updates along with others still make me smile.

Did she have a theme song? She sure gave him a lot of material - "every child a planned and wanted child" and "I'm a big fan of Eric Clapner." Rush always nailed the voice imitations, especially Elders and Clinton ("The buck never got here"). (I like listening to Ben Shapiro, but he can't do voices to save his life, and he really needs to just stop trying.}
