A story behind a paywall. *sigh* Try this LINK HERE. While I have a WSJ sub, searching by the headline gave me this without a login.

Progressive policies refute common sense (again). Texas has enough gas production that they should have an abundance of natural gas electric generation so that they not only meet their own needs, but they remain an exporter of energy in any weather.

FYI: When I lived in Tejas and we had one of these roll through, the common joke was “All that there is between here and the arctic is a barb-wire fence ... and it is down now!”

But being the “new” WSH, betcha they played down the fact that all the liberal ‘un’power plants had to shut down due the fact that renewables often are not renewable. Didn't say a thing about unicorn farts, aka wind and solar...

I find the timing curious. Texas has been talking a little more seriously about secession than they did in the past. They’ve let it be known that they have their own power grid, and thus theoretically wouldn’t need to rely on federal or other grids. Their A.G. and Gov. Abbott have taken strong steps toward putting the kibbosh on some of BiteOne’s EOs, as well as federally-initiated gun grab attempts.
Now this. Odd.

“Even the natural gas and coal plants went offline.”
Because they were overloaded - couldn’t make up for the loss of power from those non-operable solar cells and frozen windmills.

Yes, I got that in comment 16. Thanks.
