Many of our fellow Americans live in areas where leftists have poisoned the school systems.
TRADITIONAL TEACHER MODEL
My primary model would have about twenty kids in a class and a tuition of around $3,500/year/student.
Each teacher would set his/her tuition rate and maximum class size and handle student admission. Homeowner associations might host hook-up events for teachers, parents and prospective students. Tuition might be paid monthly for affordability and two months in advance (so it won't be problem for the teacher if the parents have a major car repair bill one month).
Men and women who have good English and math skills but lack high-value technical skills might choose to become such teachers.
Teachers might provide their SAT scores and college transcript information to prospective parental customers. Independent certification authorities might thoroughly test the teachers and issue report cards.
Classrooms might be set up in commercial space no longer usable for retail stores because of excessive minimum wages or shrinkage.
A classroom might have four rows of five students each and might be around 1,000 square feet in size.
The curriculum might be based on a traditional state model, a current state model, a proprietary model or the teacher's own handiwork.
PARENTAL ASSISTANCE MODEL
The Parental Assistance Model would have a parent of each child assist the teacher for a period of two weeks each school year.
The teacher would provide necessary training for the parents during several weekends prior to the school year.
Parents who don't have the time or skill to fulfill their responsibilities would have to pay and arrange for substitutes. At 35 hours a week for two weeks at $30/hour with employer taxation, hiring a substitute might cost $1050. High-income parents would often seek low-income household parents to substitute, thereby helping the low-income household parents pay tuition.
PARENT TEACHER MODEL
The Parental Teacher Model would be the lowest cost form. It would have a parent of each child be a teacher for a period of two weeks each school year.
Parents looking to participate would obtain the necessary training and certification from a specialized training organization over about 100 classroom hours prior to the school year. This organization or another would obtain and maintain the physical classroom space.
Parents who don't have the time or skill to fulfill their responsibilities would have to pay or arrange for substitutes.
PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION FUNDING by SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX REBATE
To assist parents in paying tuition and to be fair to the parents, the amount of school taxes they (and perhaps the parents' parents) pay on their residence(s) might be rebated.
Eventually, rebates might be paid for past year tuition as well, so if parents pay $7,500/year tuition for two kids and $3,000/year in school taxes, the $4,500/year difference could be rebated to the parents in the years after their kids graduate.
It is no longer possible for Republicans to reform systems at the federal level, so Republicans must enact state-level reforms.
Micro schooling like https://prendaschool.com/
Excellent.
I was speaking with my beloved last evening about good teachers who might want to band together for those who are willing to hire teachers as part of Home Schooling.
No different that other businesses, in that the teachers could join a Group Insurance.
This is where you would, or should, be looking and finding the really good teachers, not the ‘just in it for the paycheque’ folks.
If everyone sent kids to private schools the public school system would collapse.
If we saw even half of public school students go to private or home schooling, then the number of teachers and schools needed would likewise need to shrink. I can’t imagine that the same level of funding would go to public schools, if they didn’t have anywhere near today’s enrollment.
Tax money would not go to the schools in the amounts it does now, and we would see teachers laid off.
I’m not familiar with details of private school operations, however, I can imagine that there is far less bureaucracy or need to deal with politically correct dogmas in the curriculum. There would be no need to teach about “LGBT” issues, if a private school chooses to avoid such subjects.
I am an example of the retired candidate. The $$$ would not be much of a factor and have been tutoring the grand kids for 10+ years. Reading, writing, math, projects, etc. A couple of days ago, I was working with the grandson on chemistry.
I was in a 1-room school for a few days when in elementary school. My aunt in Oklahoma was the teacher in a 1-room tribal school and on my spring break or something, my same age cousin, jr. high cousin and I went with her to work. It was a mix of mix of elementary to HS students, about 15 of them, maybe fewer. I don't recall any difficulty in managing the different levels and if anything, it was an advantage. Probably a key thing was the small class size.
my son goes to a church campus twice weekly with a highly educated core of Christian/Classical learned teachers...many are classical scholars (Rice PHD’s or Houston Baptist University alumni and/or missionaries). The avg class size is 15-5 students due to pandemic...slightly more pre-pandemic. They read only original works...St Thomas Aquinas, Dante, Martin Luther,etc..lots of papers and required Latin.
Must wear suit/tie on campus days. Chapel in the AM & also choir. No PE but they have cross-country and other Eloquim classes after school for extra. Must memorize 45-60 points of history to be recalled on a dime. Lots of poetry memory work as well. He will graduate in 2 years. about 5K per year. Parent is “co-teacher” during other 3 weekdays following the leasson plans online.
Already collapsed. Just about.
Should teach how to avoid ubiquitous STD transmission. And how to avoid or stop left wing bullying.....trades...electrical...computer...construction.....business...finance...the insurmountable differences in world religions..not only the similarities..classics(history, literature, philosophy, languages)...physical health, physical training, competitive athletics, etc...all the things I didn’t want to learn(except sports)...but should have.
Great start. Hopefully a consortium of your type of organization could lead to a private credentialing organization...apart from idiotic governmental guidelines and get into higher education...such as private trade schools...or colleges and universities. Good luck.
They have obtained a charter & have about 4 operating campuses now. It started with only 5-6 students but have grown so much. I pulled my son out of publix in 5th grade. Placed him in classical ed in 6th grade. We are very fortunate and my commute to his campus is only 7 minutes!!!
They also got credentialed by a Latin organization.
It has been alot of work but 10-12 grades are already very collegiate. Lots of discussion grades and less “co-teachering” required.
Trinity Classical School
Nice!
What is/are (?) ‘Eloquim’ classes?
these are elective classes like Greek, watercolor, drawing, philosophy etc..
Trivium (grammar, logic & rhetoric)& Quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, music)
This is the system developed in Medieval Europe and what they attempt to follow in this “Classical” model...
trust me there’s no time for propaganda
