Texas or South Carolina? Where is a good place to live?

Hi Freeps!

I need your help! Over ten years ago, I asked for some good locations in Washington State to live and you all came through and helped my family find a good place to live!

Now I'm here asking you all again. My husband and I are needing to either move to South Carolina or Texas. We just need to find a good location, not too close to any city, more rural area with good schools and hopefully more conservatives.

In Texas, we would like to live near either Dallas -Fort Worth, Amarillo, Lubbock or Midland. We just want to stay away from Austin or Huston.

In South Carolina, we really have no idea. Probably more inland away from the tourist areas.

Any help would be great, like areas to stay away from, etc.

Thank you so much!

I’ve seen I’ve seen “Don’t California My Texas” bumper stickers recently. As soon as I find them for sale, my truck will have one.

Believe it or not, they even moved up here to the Seattle/Tacoma area. As if this place wasn’t liberal enough? I’m desperate to get out of Dodge. Looking into Arizona as well. Heck, probably end up in Florida... Even Mexico.

Both states are good, but make sure not to live in a county that contains a big city. BIG difference in tax rates, insurance and crime rates. I live in east Texas and my brother lives in SC.

Don’t come here, go to Texas if you are a liberal and want to continue to read the NY Times and Washington Compost, and vote the way you used to.

Flood insurance isn’t expensive if you don’t choose to pay for it. I can walk to the beach in 10 minutes and have never had flood insurance. I live between the intracoastal waterway and the ocean, and I have never (in 30 years) been afraid of water. I’m afraid of wind only when it comes to storms.

DON’T PICK A STATE UNTIL THE NATION BREAKS UP! Then you can see when to live free. This Civil War—Virginia will go with Nancy Pelosi so will Georgia, But Many states of the Midwest will go Free. Who will be the president? Donald J. Trump.

Thank you for your suggestion of El Paso and we are now looking into this city. It looks like there are mountain ranges or hills... is that what is around the city?

We used to live in Clearwater and we never worried about floods either but had to buy flood insurance because we had a mortgage.

Upon further review (as they say in the NFL)...yes. But I wouldn't live in a flood plain no matter where.

Rockwall, TX. It’s 30-35 miles east of Dallas and is outside Democrat-contolled Dallas County. GREAT schools, and even has a Costco and an In-n-Out; in the same parking lot.

Then you should consider Sequim, WA. It’s in the Olympic Mountains rain shadow. They get only 8-10” of rain per year.

Once you hit 65 years of age, property taxes go way down. We own a modest $160k townhouse outside of Houston. Property taxes for Harris County are zero. School taxes are about $1,150 per year.

I’m in Central Texas (Copperas Cove) and I love it. My only complaint is no beach (lake beaches don’t do it for me).

Texas is large area wise with vastly differing regions. Go look at some maps and at least look at what may or may not suit your taste. A couple examples.

Pray to The Lord for guidance on it.
I’ll certainly do that for you.

This is a big step for you and your family!
