Colorado Parks and Wildlife recently shared a video of an encounter between a skunk and one of Colorado's deadliest predators with an outcome many wouldn't expect.
The video below captures a skunk walking by a mountain lion at night. The clip then cuts to another scene that shows the mountain lion seemingly trying to decide whether or not to pounce on the small creature. The skunk (now seen through the brush on the left side of the clip) bluff charges the lion multiple times as the lion can be seen sinking backward and baring its teeth. Eventually, the skunk wanders off to stink another day.

That said one of our Australian Shepherds has a deep prejudice against them and has terminated a few.
We never see them here in the Silicon Valley suburbs, but their “aroma” sure penetrates homes whenever one goes off. I have to jump up and get the bedroom window closed as fast as I can.
My brother’s dog once “caught” a skunk.
The skunk sprayed the dog in the face. Quite a shock to the dog, and my brother couldn’t get the stink out for a week.
Hahaha “wanders off to stink another day”.
Sounds like a day in the life of a liberal. But that’s an insult to skunks. I like skunks.
Skunks don’t have “face” offs. It’s the other end that matters.
Same with my Blue Heeler. He takes the spray and delivers the fatal bites. Then I wash him with Dawn dish soap a few times. This all happens in our fenced yard at night. Ive trapped 13 in 5 years, he has got 3.

Every week or so you smell a wild skunk, probably road kill, and on occasion I’ve detected one near my property.

I have the same problem here in my home in southern NJ. Man, when those whiffy little buggers let loose the whole house stinks up.
The trick to getting rid of the stink is to lather the dog with toothpaste. Rub it in, wait a little, and then rinse it off. Amazing how well toothpaste works.
With that weapon I’m surprised they don’t rule the world.
I got sprayed once. That was more than enough for me!
