They usually have to stay inside to avoid damaging the ground during wet winters.
A rare video of Highland cows frolicking together in the snow has gone viral.
The animals - Morag, Flora and Hamish - were seen playing as they enjoyed the cold weather conditions at Almond Valley Heritage Centre this week.
Footage captured by a member of staff at the Livingston facility saw three of the cows running around the field basking in the snow.
They usually have to stay inside to avoid damaging the ground during wet winters, but the frozen ground this week has meant they could venture outside.
The post from the Heritage Centre said: "Normally over the winter our Highland cattle are in their house.
"This is because they are such big animals and they cause a lot of ground damage in the wet season.
"With the ground being frozen and so hard at the moment with a covering of snow, the animal team let them out to stretch their legs and blow out some cobwebs for the day.
"As you can see, Hamish our bull really enjoyed himself!
"The temperature is meant to rise considerably over the next few days, so the Highlands will be back inside until early spring.
"The cows in the video are called Morag, Flora and the dancing one is Hamish."
The video was posted to social media and raked in 2.5k likes with hundreds of Facebook users flooding the comments.
The cows cheered up Scots stuck in lockdown as they watched the friendly creatures prance around outside.
One person said: "Amazing, this made me totally smile, what beautiful animals and so happy."
A second person said: "Great lovely to see them at their happy place. Always special to have them in the snow."
A third person said: "Brilliant to see them out enjoying the fresh air."
A fourth person said: "Thanks so much for showing us this video. Absolutely wonderful to watch."
Can’t make it play from your link.
.
The boy in the comic strip Baby Blues is named Hamish, for whatever reason.
Funny, he doesn’t look Hamish.
It’s a Scot name.
It won’t play in Safari on my Mac, but it does play using Google Chrome on the same Mac.
They named him that in 1995, so he should be 25 now.
What kind of sissy ground do they have over there?
But I do have a highland cow plaque in my kitchen.
Lovely country, lovely people.
Hamish - Wikipediaen.wikipedia.org › wiki › Hamish
Hamish is a masculine given name in English and occasionally a nickname. It is the Anglicised form of the vocative case of the Scottish Gaelic Seumas: ...
We went to the Highlands and saw plenty of coos. I don’t think we saw any sheep.
I frolicked with a Highland Heifer one night.
I once washed a beautiful woolen Aran sweater.
It had been largish on me, and when it dried would only fit my 5-year-old Godchild.
Thanks. When the strip introduced Hamish as a baby I wondered about the name—was it Iranian or what?
Calves are especially frolicsome.
I once saw a baby dancing, jumping, cavorting all over, by himself in a paddock. It was hilarious and exhilarating to see such simple, exuberant joy in Life.
How did things work when we had only cotton and wool to make clothes?
Should all the pix of our Founding Fathers show them up in horribly wrinkled clothes? How did they keep wool from shrinking?
I think the next dog I get I’ll name Hamish. Sounds like a good name.
