Wait. What? Seaman apprentice? You get that right out of boot camp.

Two-year enlistment in the Navy? - I had no idea the Navy had 2-year enlistments. If they don't, then this guy got tossed out.

They had 2 year enlistments in the early 90s during major force reduction - I hadn’t heard it was in place during the war on terror - in fact they were trying to force retain people in all services around this time. So I’d guess that this guy got an admin seperation. Likely an OTH - other than honorable due to disciplinary issues. Would also explain why he got out as a SA.

The only 2 year is active enlistment. You still have to do 4 years I thought.

Tossed out or reassigned to another government agency.

I thought the same thing. I was on a 2 year enlistment in 1987 in the Army. However it was a special deal. We were the first class of 19k M-1 Abrams tankers through Ft Knox, when the Army replaced the M-60. In 2 years I earned my corporal stripes. He was in 2005 to 2007 rank was quick in those years. Not so much in my time.

I remember when I enlisted in the USAF, early in 1975 for six years, the Navy had what was called the "lumber yard", two, four, and six year enlistments. I'm not sure if they still do.
