With six days to go and really no mention of Kamala Harris leaving the Senate, I figured it may be a good distraction from everything going on to have some fun with potential Senator picks!

Probably thought she could vote in an Impeachment trial

They were hoping to get a Senate trial of Trump, thus her vote. Since the Senate is not in session, Padilla woluld have had to wait until the 19th to be sworn in at the earliest.

By choosing himself, Newsom can avoid the recall. The recall is going to happen.

I read that he picked Alex Padilla.

Thank you! Let’s see if this holds then!

The recall is going to get on the ballot, but it will not pass. Mark my words.

Great question...did some reading and it looks like what has happened in the past is that there is no VP until the next election. So Commie would be in there by herself??

Waiting for GA to certify its 2 Senators first, most likely

That is what happened WAY in the past. Most recent case was in 1963 when JFK was assassinated. VP Johnson became President and there was no VP until the Johnson/Humphrey ticket won the 1964 election and was sworn in on January 20, 1965.
Since then the Constitution was amended. If the post of VP becomes vacant -- either because the VP succeeds to the Presidency or because the VP dies or resigns -- then the President nominates a new VP, who is subject to Congressional confirmation. When Agnew resigned, Nixon nominated Ford, who was confirmed. Then when Nixon resigned, Ford became President and filled the VP vacancy by nominating Rockefeller, who was also confirmed.
