This is something I never understood. Even Hillary tried to get the military to issue a Cold War Service Medal. They refused because of the cost. At the time there were still a lot of Cold War vets in the military. They went with a certificate instead, which you would rate from 77-81. People no longer know our history from ten years ago, so they have no idea what it was like serving during the Cold War. It was the best of times it was the worst of times. Compared to today, it was a good time to be a man the military.
The Cold War is a recognized war and if the VFW were to recognize it as such they would increase their membership. I know Sailors in the VFW who never left the ship, but their task force fired some missiles into Iraq. I belong to one veterans group, because of my last Navy Commands I was allowed to join. We have a couple of events a year, but the Association has some really awesome people in it.
They have a 6 story red brick building on Maine Street just across from what was known as “The Wharf” on the DC waterfront. During the last decade all of the old 2 & 3 restaurants and hotels were torn down and new 10+ story buildings were built. I often went to the now existing restaurants to eat lunch and enjoy the view of the Potomac and the boats in the marina. And, before my knees went out and I had to stop running, was taking a run from Ft. McNair up the Wharf and back or around the ‘pond’ where the cherry trees are. That route is no longer runnable. And I never visited the DAV building.
My DAV donations will be transferred to my WWP monthly Thank You.
I agree with the company that said our politicians (lawmakers)should be not be exempt from being exposed to the same dangers that citizens face in cities through out the country (paraphrased).
I wasn’t there but my donation will now go to the local humane society. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Funny, nothing was said about those vets in hats who sat right behind, and clapped for, obama!!

I had a similar incident. The DAV was my advocate for my disability claim. Took seven years to get it fixed, and that was after I told them I no longer wanted DAV help. Had to do a video medical board with the VA on my own. Seven freaking years. Now the VFW is my advocate. Used them in Washington state and now Texas. They have help.
Donald J Trump has done more in 4 years to improve the lives of disabled vets than any other President in my lifetime. The least Whitehead and Hunter could have done was to acknowledge Trump’s contributions before engaging in self-aggrandizing virtue signaling. Not to mention establishing legitimacy by polling the membership prior to making public threats.

The truth is in order to go into the Capitol Building and the White House you have to contact your Congressman 2 to 3 months in advance and you have to request a ticket WITH a specific time on it and you can only go through the door at the particular time that is stamped on the ticket.
So, the Capitol police bear some responsibility for what happened. They let people in when they shouldn't have.
VFW? I ain’t catering to them anyway. We have a small one in my town. I went one day to check it out...didn’t go in.
Next day at work I talked to a fella that goes there. He strongly advised me not to enter; I will be run out in a rail.
I asked if he served in the military and replied “No”. So, “How comes you can hang out at the bar, but I can’t. I am an actual veteran of a foriegn war.”
If they don’t know you, they won’t accept you! He said.
So ..screw ‘em.
Boy, they must have a secret trust fund! How many of us are supporting Tower and Wounded Warriors? They should take a closer look at what is happening to Fox News.

I was haze grey and underway. FTM, first Talos, then Tarter after the mighty Chi was decommed. Westpac and a Med cruise, hit the north atlantic, and a caribbean cruise. Got the Navy Expeditionary for being off the coast of Yemen during one of their many civil wars. A lot of at sea time for 4 years.
Somehow, that’s not good enough for the VFW. Like I said, screw ‘em.
Apparently I’m in the DAV, even though I didn’t join.
When I need help with something, I call the WWP. They do more for younger vets than anyone I know. They are great!

Jeez, he felt COMPELLED TO VIRTUE SIGNAL. Screw the DAV if they spend our donations on likely highly paid VIRTUAL SIGNALERS such as this character. Get some other sucker to cover their overhead.
