Vanity: I'm done with Amazon, how about you?

Amazon's censorship is too much. Got along okay before Amazon, can get along without them now.

So you give a 1 star rating, fine. Parse this

Go back and give everything you purchased a 1-star rating

“Crushing smaller independent and local alternative is all a part of the plan to make make the tribes dependent on the Great Father in Washington DC.” ***** Since we can’t change things at the voting booth anymore, we have to change them at the cash register. I don’t care how inconvenient it is or how much more I have to pay, there are businesses I will not patronize. We need a boycott list, if anyone has a link to a good one, I’d appreciate it.

Here's a start:

I did. I gave everything a one-star rating. The product is fine but the delivery service is awful. I'm not rating the product. I'm rating the product as it was sold to me through Amazon.

Can anybody tell me how you cancelled prime?

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I am very much an computer amateur so I couldn't easily repeat what it took to cancel prime. I just went back to the home page but still couldn't remember what specific steps it took. I know I went to the main amazon page where it says ‘Hello albie’ in the top right. Then it says ‘account’ below that. I clicked on ‘account’. That's where my help stops for now. I know I just kept clicking on options until I found something that allowed me to cancel. They don't make it easy.

Today I did get to one spot labeled ‘help’ that allowed me to type in what help I needed. I typed in ‘cancel prime’ and an answer came up saying I had no membership to cancel so I think that would work if you can get to that spot, where there is a black line asking you to type in what help you are seeking. Good luck. Persevere!

Name alternatives please.

I’m begging to get off of that slave system.

And please don’t tell me Walmart or Target either.

I also won’t use Amazon.

We need to fight back against this tyranny.

My wife canceled her Prime account yesterday.

I never had one.

I did take apart my old Kindle. Drill holes through it and then smashed it with a sledgehammer. I probably should have videotaped it and sent it to youtube.

You are one of the lucky ones. Most are on annual. Mines up in April I believe.

I chastised my wife about a week ago when she made the statement that we should not be buying anything from Amazon.
I stated that I don’t. That she was the one that was having these cardboard boxes delivered to our house everyday for weeks prior to Christmas.

Every Christmas gift I purchased was from a local company or a independent seller on EBAY or ETSY. No Amazon for me.

I think the best part of FB is Marketplace. Segregate local listings only. It is much better than trying to purchase items off of Craigslist.

With local listings only you get to sell who exactly you are purchasing an item from. You can negotiate directly with them easily through instant message. I have bought and sold multiple items off it. My son entirely furnished his first apartment off of FB Marketplace.

Wow, a twofur.

I have killed 18(I counted) mice so far this fall/winter at my house in NH. I found two more in the basement on Saturday morning.

Almost every retailer has a website that you can order from.
Many have an EBAY site.
We all survived for years without purchasing from Amazon.
I would bet there are plenty of companies right in KY you could buy from that will ship right to your doorstep.

Buy all the durable necessities you need then stop buying. Unless it is a made in the USA product.

I didn’t know if I would like it or not so I went monthly. It costs a little more that way but it said I could cancel. It worked out I guess.

Here in rural NH we take our trash to the transfer center in our town. Affectionately known as “the dump”.
Up until covid-19 there was a book exchange at my dump. Almost all the towns have them. Up until last spring, it is where I got all my books. Real books, paper backs and hardcovers. When I was done reading I brought them back. I probably have 30+ books left to read.

Yep. In my case it was because I lived in Seattle. Amazon’s very existence and what it meant is one of the reasons I felt comfortable moving to the sticks. I do order from other sites, but Amazon is absurdly convenient and Amazon Prime is our only source of televised entertainment outside our DVD/Blueray collection. If it makes you feel any better, we’ve only purchased two movies from them. :)

I can drastically reduce my use of amazon, and have, but there is no need to stop using them. Oh, and in my small town the major employers are the local university and the Amazon fulfillment center. It is one of their first. And they do a LOT of good stuff in our small town.

I am trying.
The Wranger jeans I am wearing were made in Mexico. My underware was made in Vietnam, socks in the Dominican Republic. I actually did buy some white socks at my local grocery store that were made in the USA. The belt I am wearing was made in the USA. The boots too. I know because I looked before I purchased all of the above.

As much as we try it is realy hard to not buy Made in China products. For example; I went to a local independently owned Truevalue hardware store to purchase a humidifier for my bedroom. The old Sunbeam unit died after about 20 years. All three products that the hardware store had available for sale were made in China. I bought one. It was another Sunbeam.

This is the same story with most power tools. Almost all are made in China. Although, I did buy a Stihl hedge trimmer that was made in Austria. The battery was made in Germany.
