AN FRANCISCO -- The Cliff House restaurant, which first opened 157 years ago, announced Sunday that the restaurant will close permanently on Dec. 31, a victim both of the COVID-19 pandemic and, its owners say, delays by the National Park Service in reaching a long-term operating contract with the restaurant.
They said 180 employees will lose their jobs.
The Cliff House ended in-house dining in March, owing to the pandemic. After 10 weeks of offering only takeout service, the restaurant shut down to diners as the pandemic struck.
The operators said they attempted to try takeout-only service in early June, but after 10 weeks of that, closed down completely in mid-July, saying the restaurant was losing too much money as a takeout-only operation.

Not awesome to me. This was a wonderful traditional place, and I have had many great moments with family and friends out there.

Went there in 84. Wonderful restaurant.
I remember when CA did the same thing to “Red White Blue Beach” back 15 years ago.
The owners had a nice business and CA refused to let them run it.
It was the nicest beach in NoCal.
The message was “Sell us your land or you will have to close your business”
I suspect this is the same story except they are going to try and blame COVID
Looks like beautiful vistas while dining. No doubt that the NPS delay was intentional in order to expel the restaurant. It will be repurposed for federal use only. Such a nice place is too good for the hoi polloi

You can’t convince me that this isn’t a large-scale devaluing of properties by running them into the ground to then buy them up at a fraction, force hard-working Americans to bail out Failed Communist Democrat cities and states, and then reopen these business as the new landlords. It’s right out of the Communist playbook.
It was actually a great place to eat if you could afford it.
It will make a nice homeless shelter.
