sad, but why not follow protocol and be in front of safety vehicle? maybe 1 or more would be alive if the followe protocols (and all other biking laws).
I have a friend who has ridden from HB to Vegas. It is about a 350 mile ride. Checked Strava, I don’t think he was trying it again.
I could never understand what possess bicycle riders to ride on highways, right next to traffic. IMO, that’s suicide.
Why were bicycles on an interstate highway? I thought that was illegal b/c of the obvious danger.
Never mind - its a local highway not the interstate. Still...

[Weeks is familiar with the stretch of road where the crash unfolded. On Thursday, he struggled to imagine how the crash happened there.
“That shoulder on the side of that highway is wide enough to fit three cars,” Weeks said. “We don’t really know how somebody managed to get that far off the road. These were all very very experienced cyclists. It’s not like they accidentally rode off and into the road.”
It was not the first time those riders made the trip.
“These are people who ride 10,000 miles a year. Some race professionally,” Weeks said. “How did something like this mistakenly happen?”]
Never ride on roads with cars and trucks. Always felt unsafe whenever I have done so. Sad.
Five fewer road hazards for drivers.
As a FORMER hardcore cyclist, I can say that MOST riders have about as much respect for drivers as chickens do for the fox: NONE until the henhouse is breached, then they scream at the top of their lungs about how they must be respected. That they show NO respect to their fellow road users matters not, they are CYCLISTS!
Add in the entitled mindset of the millennial, and here we are.
I lived near the trace in Jackson Mississippi where the old trace ran through my grandmas property and now near Nashville I’m also near the trace at the northern terminus
Bikes have right of way to even ride abreast here
Wonder more aren’t killed on the trace honestly
That stretch of highway is miles and miles of flat straightway.
I know this stretch of road. The pictuer in post one by Ben Lurkin is just after coming off the highway past Rail Road Pass Casino onto the streatch of 95 to Searchlight.
Looks like the route from the base of Lake Mead to Boulder city. If so, that’s a surprisingly dodgy route.
There appears to be plenty of riding space outside the fog lane. I don’t know if Nevada has a legal minimum legal speed limit but some states do. I prefer they not ride on public highways.
Cell phones. Everyone is on their cell phones. I see truck drivers watch tv in their trucks too. Not all, but some.
What the hell were a bunch of damn bicyclists doing on RT 95?????
The survivors should all be arrested and the truck driver given an accolade.
I hate those arrogant bicyclists
5 bicyclists killed, 4 others injured in crash involving truck
...the driver wasn't impaired. Though I don't know how they'd have the results of a tox screen back this fast.
