Trump: The Senate will start the process for a vote that increases checks to $2,000, repeals Section 230, and starts an investigation into voter fraud.

A) Trump: I will sign the Omnibus and Covid package with a strong message that makes clear to Congress that wasteful items need to be removed.
B) Trump: I will send back to Congress a redlined version, item by item, accompanied by the formal rescission request to Congress insisting that those funds be removed from the bill.

Smarter then. The average Congress critter.
Wonder who’s past experience in congress is assisting him.

That’s exactly what I was going to post.
With all the people we are finding we cannot trust, somebody is helping him find obscure laws, or rules to be used. Like the 10 years for destroying a statue. Whoever it is, Trump needs to let them help some more.
To: gubamyster
May be more than one. Pence ? Newt? Mitch? Even his daughter who just finished law school might have some insight. All are students of congressional laws. It is smart for them to keep out of the limelight.

Who gave AT&T the contract?
Has anyone seen a copy of said contract?

Stephen Miller?
Whoever it is, or they are, it seems they are one of the few to be trusted.

TRUMP RALLIES
I’ve read that if anyone can’t make it to DC, they want everyone to rally at the State capitals.
If you are going to a Trump rally don't forget what happened to the people leaving the last Trump rally in DC.
You might want to bring a flashlight just in case you happened to meet some BLM or ANTIFA goons as you depart.
Here is an affordable model with an added feature that could come in very handy - It's about 8" long and very solidly built.

I'm not a lawyer but it looks like The Impound Control Act only allows the President to withhold certain funding for 45 days and then after that if Congress doesn't approve of it the funds must be made available.
Shem Horne
So if I'm reading this right, it just means that the funds will be held up for 45 days and then released, because there's no way that Congress is going to override their own pork filled bill they passed a week ago.
Yes, but now it will be congress holding it up, not Trump. Not sure the American people will see it that way though. Especially if their relief is held up another 45 days and unemployment as well.
Shem Horne
No he signed those parts of it so they wouldn't be held up, just the things he didn't approve of
I have a ?. If he vetoed the Bill could they Override his veto? If so why sign it?, makes no sense except a complete cave!
It was a complete cave. Trump signed the Bill (everything that was in in), but his people are saying he can withhold some funds.
He can’t. Congress will get a court to enjoin him.
My first ?, you didn’t answer if he vetoed the bill outright could they still override it? I think yes, so he just played to the establishment and got played by them. They won’t change a fucking thing in that bill either party.
Yes, a vetoed bill can be overrided normally. But Not here if he doesn’t veto it.
In this case he could have sat on the bill and did nothing. (pocket vetoed), let the government shut down and the next Congress in a few weeks would have to pass a new bill.
This congress ends before the 10 days is up . Because the next congress is less than 10 days away he doesn’t have to veto, it will die in its own.
If congress would be in session for more than 10 days, if he didn’t veto it becomes law.
Don’t worry. All of Congress is going to GITMO in 45 days. We will have a new Congress that will re-vote. 52 D chess.
Sounds like something Graham would have talked him into while they were out golfing yesterday. Probably with the promise that "Oh yes, we'll take care of it - don't you worry"
I'm trying to skim through the act looking for something about Congress' procedure following Trump's invocation of the act. Could it be that We the People get the stimulus money, but Congress has to do something to double down on the pork, exposing themselves further?
Shem Horne
lol they don't care about doubling down on the pork
Per the Senate legislative day - A "day" that starts when the Senate meets after an adjournment and ends when the Senate next adjourns. Hence, a legislative day may extend over several calendar days or even weeks and months.
Just saying, if they refuse it will be in the face of every single American watching at this moment... and we are all more invested in what’s happening in dc now more than ever soo they should tread lightly
But because Congress adjourns on the 3rd, inside the 45 day window, I think the bill would be pocket vetoed if Congress doesn't approve.
A lot can change in 45 days.
Appear weak when you are strong.
Spoken like a true bird lawyer
That’s it.
So basically funding that is on item vetos can be withheld but the direct checks and unemployment can be finalized quickly while waiting on line item vetos?
Shem Horne
As far as I can tell the direct checks and unemployment and stuff he approved, the things he didn't approve of will just be delayed by 45 days and then funded anyways
The next congress is what matters Trump got his hamburder and doesn't pay till Tuesday. 5D
Neither am I but I'll trust @realDonaldTrump to know what he's doing.
Except deferred funding for budgetary reasons
Me too. But someone mentioned the continuous 45 days in session clause. This congress ends jan 3. And all old business has to be resubmitted.
The original voting margin in both houses was a veto proof majority, so if he had vetoed they could have overridden. At least this stops the clock.
The Expedited Legislative Line-Item Veto and Rescissions Act of 2011
Way down in Similar measures. A little different. Not sure which was used yet.
There was some wording about the 45 days not having to be contiguous, but my eyes glazed over during that point TBH.
Don't we have a new Congress in less than 2 weeks? Would they have to start over with their Pork?

“Don’t we have a new Congress in less than 2 weeks? Would they have to start over with their Pork?”
No.
Once signed by the President the bill becomes law.
After a 45 day delay all the monies must be spent as Congress directed unless both Houses of Congress pass laws saying otherwise. Which won’t happen.
As I said on other threads this is the President going out with a whimper.
He should have demanded actual votes to override to go out with a bang. Even if he would have lost them- so what?
Anyway, still love what he’s done for us in his term (and his next if it happens!).
He’s been beaten and mugged by scum for 4 years for our sake.
For our sake.

I agree with the 45 days is a long time. To the countries mentioned in the bill they won't be receiving the money if proved they are not in our best interest. Lots should be coming out before the 45days. But that's while Americans will receive a check and unemployment is received. So I don't see it as a cave in. Our POTUS isn't going anywhere and he'll have time to unveil an ugliness not deserving of our money. We'll most likely have a House and Senate majority. Then we'll deal with particulars.
