I would suggest Texas, but they don’t have mountains to speak of. They do around the Big Bend area, but that’s a remote area and they’re not ‘pretty’. Have you considered West Virginia?
Yes, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Idaho are very similar. I would suggest New Mexico, since the climate is more temperate in general and they have mountains, except their governor seems to be quite fond of lockdown.
I think the best thing you can do is decide what things are important to you, and which things would be nice but can be compromised on. For me, political climate is #1. That includes gun laws, income tax, fiscal soundness of state. Then comes healthcare and other services needed as I get older, which is why I’m not looking at remote locations. My compromise is the weather; since I’ll be retired, I wouldn’t have to get out in it and would be well stocked beforehand.

I have not had cancer, but...
I took a home test (Color Guard) and it came back positive.
I will now have to have a colonoscopy.
It may sound corny, but I do not want to have it done in 2020.
