The line 'shot heard round the world' is from the poem "Concord Hymn" by Ralph Waldo Emerson. It was written for a dedication ceremony of a battle monument at the site of the North Bridge skirmish in Concord.
Not sure if the phrase was used in connection with the Lexington & Concord battles prior to the poem. But my way of thinking, it's referring to Concord due to the poem title and the reason it was written.
