I bet your niece would love to meet you, again, some day.
She may become the bridge that ties....to family, friendship....who knows.
I have a friend in a similar situation, and, by a miracle....she’s reconnecting with her niece (brother’s daughter, as well). Who knows where it will ever lead...but, for now, I think it’s bringing her some peace just to know they’re talking.
FR is a great gathering place, for FRiends, for all....intro AND extroverts :-)

I manage to have a pretty good time, despite the misery I was raised with and endured and still endure as an adult. Thankfully, my kids have turned out well, which makes it all worth it. My son is not walking with God any longer, and he’s gone to the dark side politically, but we still manage to stay pretty connected and can discuss things without any angst. I told him today that I can’t wait for the day he comes to me and tells me his eyes have been opened. I told him if that happens, I can die happy. So if he wants his inheritance in a hurry, he better open his eyes!
