You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Challenging little Cryptogram, unless you can guess the author right out of the box, then it’s a piece of apple pie.

4 minutes is very good.
3 minutes is excellent
2 minutes outstanding

Congratulations to

Jonah Hex

on making it “again” to the 2 minute club yesterday. I try to keep up on this. If you’ve beaten the 2 minute clock on solving a CG please let me know!

About 90 sec.

Inspection — first two words.
Grammar — 3rd word.
8th or 9th word (3 letters, you know the first, and last two letters are the same).
Author’s name.
Off to the races.

Wild guesses on the short words led to the finish line.

First, fourth, and eight words, and then the author. Very quick.

I’m late to the party.
Hm. Had I solved this CG before I left this morning, I would have adjusted the corners of my mind.

I am not Pres Trump.

At the stop light a beat up pick up truck was behind me. I was checking out the dude. Cowboy hat, shades, shoulder length hair. Cool. Then in my side mirror I spot something waving in the back of his truck. A HUGE Trump flag.
I get all fluttery. How to signal him? honk?
I gave a thumbs up in the rear view mirror.
He returned instantly a solid, strong thumbs up sign.
Made my day.

I don’t time but this was done in a nano second or two.

The jokes just write themselves if one lets their mind wander in separate directions...

Of course at 18 is one thing and 50 is something altogether different...
