If news organizations declare Joe Biden the mathematical president-elect, he plans to address the nation as its new leader, even if President Trump continues to fight in court, advisers tell Axios.
Why it matters: Biden advisers learned the lesson of 2000, when Al Gore hung back while George W. Bush declared victory in that contested election, putting the Democrat on the defensive while Bush acted like the winner.
So if Biden is declared the winner, he'll begin forming his government and looking presidential — and won't yield to doubts Trump might try to sow.
Biden's schedule for Tuesday includes a clue to this posture: He "will address the nation on Election Night in Wilmington, Delaware." Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon told reporters Monday that even if all the votes aren't counted tonight, the campaign should have "a very good sense of where we're headed":
"We're not really concerned about what Donald Trump says. ... We're going to use our data, our understanding of where this is headed, and make sure that the vice president is addressing the American people."

I was puzzled this morning when the local news anchor mentioned that Biden will address the nation tonight. Couldn’t figure that out since the voting will be over. Now it makes sense.
Stop peddling fear porn. The military will not go along with this.

Article has a selective memory of the 2000 election. Gore conceded, so it was rightful for Bush to conduct himself as the victor. Later Gore was convinced to call Bush again and withdraw his concession. Bush responded with incredulity. Withdrawing a concession is equivalent to a general trying to unsurrender and ask for his sword back. Gore famously told him, “don’t get snippy”.
Without the Electoral College’s certification, and Biden being sworn in by a SCOTUS justice, let him play pretend president all he wants.
Biden advisers will learn is that once the numbers are in you can’t play the game black flag ensues.
Todays vote won’t make him president elect.
It’s the Electoral votes that will be counted in January which would do that.
They won’t be able to steal a wave win by Trump. They are thinking of 2000 and 2004, which won’t happen. This will not be a close election.
They tried doing that in 2016, but the AP started announcing Trump winning States to put him over 270 and they had to give up.
This isn’t going to be 2000! How many States do you think the Democrats can contest?
This is Biden blowing more smoke...they try to say that Trump doesn’t win unless Biden says he wins. B.S. It isn’t whether someone concedes that determines the outcome. It’s the votes cast. Funny how the Democrats abandon “count every vote” when the votes are on the other side.
