Getting a New Mattress, What's Your Favorite Brand?
Myself | 10/25/2020 | Balding_Eagle

Posted on 10/25/2020 10:29:06 AM PDT by Balding_Eagle

I am in the market for a new mattress, our memory foam mattress has given out, and I've ended up sleeping in a 'trench' for the past few months and it's time to replace it with a new one.

At 5'10" and about 185, I'm not a monster who has smashed the bed.

I'm certainly open to another memory foam type, it was very good when it was newer, but I'd like to hear from others.

What are you using, how satisfied are you with your choice, and how long have you had it?

Thanks to everyone who takes time to respond.

I purchased my mattress direct from the factory CozyPure of Norfolk VA. It’s 100% organic latex and will last for a lifetime.

I have an Englander that held up nicely for 50 years or so before it got too soft. You may be looking for something with more lasting power.

>> Not sure if it is soft enough in the right places.<<

The OP said “mattress.” Not “wife.” :) ;)

My wife and I have had a Sleep Number for 10 years. We bought the top of the line i10. She loves it. I didn’t care for it all that much because I slept warm and tossed and turned. When I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer, it got much worse, but I found a solution.

Got this one month ago and now sleep great. If I have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I am back asleep in no time. Never toss and turn anymore. Even if you have a king size bed, the half queen is plenty large enough for one ide of the bed. They also have occasional sales. Veterans get 30% off any time.

Also great for a woman who has hot flashes.

As for our current Sleep Number, it is still in great shape.

They also sell chili blankets.

Original Mattress Factory. It is a local Direct to Consumer Manufacturer started in Cleveland by the former President of Ohio Sealy about 30 years ago. They are in several midwest & southern states. We own several. High quality & very affordable. Top of the line king size mattress costs less than $1,000. The comparable name brand is at least 2-3x’s as much. Owned 2 in last 25 years for our bed.

If they are in your area. Worth a look. No pressure sales. No gimmicks.

Another vote for BROOKLYN BEDDING firm mattress.

I’ve had mine 4+ years...still the best I’ve ever slept on.

First, start pricing stuff like mattresses and recliners, etc., per hour of usage. For example, we purchased the top of the line Sealy posture mattresses from Haverty's over 15 years ago. We love our mattress!

Figuring that's 43,800 hours of usage to date (15 years x 365 days x 8 hours of sleep per day), it works out to $1,500 / 43,800 = $0.03 per hour of usage.

The last thing you want to worry about when buying something that's going to make a world of difference in your quality of life is the price of your mattress.

Go to a reputable distributor's showroom and lay down on the mattresses on display. Pick the most luxurious mattress with good firm support and hopefully with a return/exchange policy so if you get it home, and it's either too firm or too soft. Also consider investing in a quality mattress cover.

My .03 cent mattress buyer's guide. :)

I run hot too but love memory foam so I bought a Bamboo topper. Cools things off a lot.

BB firm mattress great for back sleepers. Medium is recommended for side sleepers but I haven’t had any difficulties sleeping on my side on their firm mattress.

Get any mattress you want, then put a two inch latex topper on it.

My two cents:

Two months ago we got a Sleep Number bed. The basic model (don’t need frills), and the thinnest height I think (we like a hard mattress). Each side has a remote to adjust softer or firmer. You can do stuff via smart phone and internet, but we don’t do that.

We had the Holy Grail of mattresses on our queen bed 20 years ago — a Serta — but they don’t make that line any more and we need a king. It’s in our guest room.

So - we’re happy with Sleep Number. It’s not like we notice a big difference with the mattress itself, but notice that we often sleep straight through the night.
