A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

Which browser are you using now? I need to find where you’re “dang the torpedoes, full speed ahead” button.
Some days?
Maybe some days life is fair. I haven’t run across one yet.
Thank you!!! I knew it was fairly straightforward, but just didn’t know how to look for it. (Story of my life!)
I’m too tired to focus, now, but I’ll give it a shot in the morning and let you know how it works.
Thanks again!

Also, sometimes you go to an unprotected site, like http://www.freerepublic.com, and it redirects you to a secure site like https://freerepublic.com. If you see a locked padlock icon in the URL window, you’re at a site that needs its certificate.
Ah. THAT’s what the locked padlock is, then. That’s good to know!
You guys are the best!
For now, I’m using MS, but when I get to a point where I don’t have to spend hours just trying to pack a carton, or get the other chores done and not fall asleep when I’m trying to read Scriptures, I’ll get busy learning some Linux and getting it installed.
Thank you!
It took me a while to wander through and find what I needed, (Win 10) but it’s done. If I have to do it every time I want to access the library site, then I will, but at least I know The Fix!
I ordered some DVDs, so now, all I have to do is watch my email to see when they’re ready for me to pick up.
XOXOXO
PS: The library site says “Not Secure” ahead of the URL.
Kitteh looks surprised that I was working on geeky things so early in the day!
Good morning.
I changed things up a bit last night and stayed awake, then went to sleep. Maybe I’ll try extending my schedule an hour in the day so I can sleep the night through. We’ll see! I’m sure it will mean setting the alarm again, but that’s a small price to pay to get my life a little bit on the orderly side.
MAYBE I’ll get something done today. I hope so, anyway. All things considered, I feel fairly adept. As opposed to wobbly and clumsy, as I’ve been the last week or so in the snain, wind, rain and guck.
I’m glad today is starting off a little better. It is not raining or cold here.
Happy Humph Day, everyone.
I see the lack of security at the libary has kitteh all nervous.
Dasn’t worry, kitteh. It will be OK.
It was better, but I missed the Golden Hour, I think. ohwell. I’ll do what I can and leave the rest.

Happy Odin’s Day to you!
As long as I don’t specify “Video,” but leave it set on “Everything,” at the library request page, I can actually order the DVDs. Not sure if I’ll have to go through this every time I want to order new ones, but we’ll see.
Thank you.
G’orning, y’all.
I think your settings to allow you to proceed remain in place until you change them again.
Morning, SG. I hope all is well. Or at least as well as can be expected.
Hi, you.
I hope you’re doing OK.
;o]
You’re welcome. And good morning!
Well, if it reverts, at least this time, I’ll know what to do!
