Hi Everyone,
I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me to help with how to vote on the NJ ballot questions.
The NJ Republican website is worthless.
#1 regarding marijuana legalization is a no-brainer. It's a no.
#2 regarding providing a property tax reduction for peacetime veterans is a little more difficult. I am always in favor of lowering taxes, and I also believe, as did Churchill when he quoted Milton, that "they also serve who only stand and wait". So I'm leaning towards yes on this. I think that enacting property tax relief for the elderly is more pressing. On the other hand, NJ is not going to reduce spending to pay for this, so my own taxes are going to go up. It'll just accelerate my exodus from NJ, I guess.
#3 is the most confusing. It wants to change the NJ Constitution to delay redistricting if the census is delayed. I'm leaning against this because it seems to me that they should be able to deal with this problem short of permanently changing the state Constitution. Some democrat organizations are against this, however, which makes me question what I should do.
Thank you, everyone, in advance for your help and wisdom.
No on question #3.
Even if it does go through, it will probably be challenged in court. It would give NJ an unfair balance of power other states would not have.
question #2. I voted yes, reason being everyone goes to boot camp and is technically trained to be combat ready. Troops could be called up at any time.
I always vote no on all the questions
I have local question if I want to give the local thugs money for “open space fund” so they can go around and buy swamp land from their pals. Screw that crap, I would rather keep that money in my pocket
I just wish everyone else would wise up to this nonsense
The way I read it is, if there is a Court Challenge to the Census because NJ loses a seat or 2 in Congress, that NJ will stay with the current seating. To me that is the Democrats trying to hang onto Power.
JMO .... hope it helps!
NJ would have more seats that it is supposed to in the House, because redistricting would be delayed. House is based on population, right? Many have exited NJ due to high taxes, and there is the possibility that there would be less seats. That is my understanding.
I live here, too, and that is my understanding also.
Thanks TD.
We haven’t had a “peacetime veteran” in over 20 years.
Thanks fedupjohn.
Thanks again siamesecats. That’s good info.
No, no, and no.
That’s how I voted.
Yeah, there's a lot of ambiguity in what "peacetime veteran" could mean. Questions like that make me wonder what their ulterior motive really is.
Thanks nesnah.
Sure thing, Peter...anytime.
Be assured they don’t want you to know. Maybe targeting the ‘75-’89 service demographic? Post-VN, pre-Gulf War I.

Thank you, Sir.
That makes sense.
What a lot of people do not know about the Boston Tea Party is that the gripe of the colonists was not that the tea had a tax. The gripe was that it applied only to the tea that the colonists got rich from and not on the tea from the crown and it's monopoly with the East India Tea Company (though I think that tea itself came from China). In other words, they were protesting the crown using a tax to punish competitors and increase the crown's monopoly on tea.
That's my attitude with any tax, law, or regulation that's one way for some people and a different way for others.
