Frankly, I’m shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that in 2020 people are still calling Turing circles, “fairy circles.”
Oh... not that kind of fairy... right... sorry.

Turing Patterns & "mysterious formations of desert grass that grow around distinctly circular patterns..."
One can see that all the time in Texas. Drive past a pasture and see it dotted with round clumps of taller grass.
We call them Fire Ant mounds.

Perhaps animals then came and ate the healthier grass, as opposed to the surrounding crappy vegetation.
The world is a dynamic, not a static, place.

Not likely. Shroom fairy rings are caused by an underground mycelium that originated at a point, and grows outward. When it produces the fruiting bodies...mushrooms...theyre at the margins of the mycellium. Still really cool, though.

Alan Turing - worst treated genius ever. Yes. One would think that by saving millions of lives with his brilliant code breaking, Turing would have earned a punishment for his homosexuality far less barbaric than chemical castration. His country stabbed him in the back, and he killed himself two years later.

“Rround clumps of taller grass.”
The soil is in round clumps, not the vegetation. I missed that the first time through.

This also explains the preponderance of fairy circles in Washington, DC...
You can't throw a rock without hitting a fairy...
I'd volunteer for conducting valid tests of this proposition...

Fire Ant mounds are round for the most part.
There is a pasture in S DeSoto (Texas, y'all) with fire and mounds 1.5 foot high and 3-4feet across.
Do not know how that guy's calves survive.

Yeah, they’re kind of like Aspen trees, that are all part of one underground system, and ‘trees’ pop up all over the place.
This year was lousy for Morel hunting, but we almost always have a bounty of Golden Oyster mushrooms. I love anything mushroom-related. :)

Brown Patch lawn disease's typical doughnut shape. Don't dilly-dally if you see this stuff...buy and put down fungicide immediately.

The local oysters...white...are my favorite to eat raw. Chanterelles are probably the fave for cooking.
