How many people are in a percentage point? If someone wins an election 51 percent to 49 percent, how many thousands of people does that account for?
Depends on the sample size.
Good Lord.
Estimate the amount of voters and divide by 100.
Leni
State?
County?
City?
School Board?
Cub Scout Pack meeting?
in 2016, about 140 million people voted.
a percentage point is 1,400,000 votes.
How big is the zit on my buttox?
For example if you are running for mayor in Smith Corners, population 700, and there are 450 registered voters, 400 of which decide to turn out to the polling place and vote, and you win by 1% then your margin of victory would be 4 votes.
You should probably have thought this through before posting. Regards...
Only in terms of the national popular vote, which doesn’t determine the outcome of anything.
How many points will a Brayden Point score if a Brayden Point will score points?
I actually lol’ed.
The reason I am asking this is because I have seen to many times when a Republican is winning an election by - let's say 4000 votes - and then all of a sudden, the Dems find 4500 ballots all cast for the Dem.
I asked the question wondering how many percentage points does President Trump have to win by on election night before the Dems figure it is worth the time to find the many thousands to millions of votes.
But you assholes just keep on posting your silly crap. Maybe I did not phrase it correctly or explain myself better, but at least there were a couple Freepers who answered seriously. The rest of you assholes can go ef yourselfs.
Develop a more positive attitude or u gonna cost us the election ...
A single percentage point of the electorate that actually votes in a national election is orders of magnitude more than the typical sample size of a polling group or fake news organization poll.
Take Pennsylvania in 2016. Trump got 2,970,733 or 48.58% of the vote. Hillary got 2,926,441 or 47.85% of the vote. The gap was 44,292 votes which was 0.72% of the total PA vote count (or 72 basis points or bp).
So neither Trump or Hillary got 50% of the vote. All that mattered was that Trump has at least one more vote than Hillary. If Hillary lost by one vote, the percentages would have been 48.5778858% for Trump and 48.5778695% for Hillary, or a percentage point differential of 0.000000163%.
I hope that helps.

Depends on how many people voted (and how often)!
