One of the residents had unwisely invited Robert Thompson, 47, to stay at the apartment he shared with his girlfriend. He did this despite Thompson having a lengthy rap sheet and a history of criminal behavior.
True to form, Thompson quickly began causing trouble of an alarming kind, including exposing himself to some young girls, throwing a rock through someone’s window and threatening people (including his hosts) with violence.
Understandably, the apartment’s tenant, Leander Mccoy, called the police. But after arriving and questioning Thompson, the police simply left, saying they would “seek a warrant” to deal with the matter.
The following day, Thompson’s behavior flew further out of control and he wound up trapping McCoy’s girlfriend in their bedroom along with a friend. He then took a golf club and began smashing everything in the apartment, moving on to vandalize cars in the parking lot. The police were again called to the scene, but they once again spoke to Thompson and left, saying that it had been decided that they would “stand down” rather than get into a confrontation with the suspect that could lead to a use-of-force scenario.
Aurora Police Deputy Chief Darin Parker said, “We’re trying to get the situation resolved with the least amount of escalation, the least amount of confrontation as we can.” He went on to say that if the officers had responded more aggressively and attempted to take Thompson into custody it could have led to the use of deadly force.

If you dont have it already, strongly suggest getting a legal protection program like US Lawshield. I am not selling it and I dont get anything for saying this, but I carry it because I know that if I have to defend myself, I get all leagl expenses covered, which I expect will run into the 10’s of thousands if lucky, and hundreds of thousands or even millions if not. For less than $150 dollars a year, I can un-shoulder any burden of fearing for loss of home and bankruptcy just for defending my life or my family. I dont need that in my shoot/no-shoot decision process.
What a joke of a police department in aurora. I guess the leftists there and fellow middle-of-the-road nitwits are the majority and voted for this sort of insanity.
The left wants cops to allow blacks to commit crime. And so there will be more crime by blacks. Most of their violent crime will be directed at blacks. So the left is causing the deaths of many blacks.
Which they will blame on Whitey.

Parker did not go on to say, “look, we asked him nicely if he would accompany the nice officer to take him to jail; he said ‘No!’ We then took out our social worker-approved list and started from the top. ‘Pretty please? the officer asked. He still said ‘No!’ We even offered sugar on top. No change in the response. Hey, what do you want from us? We’re only sworn law enforcement.”
I need to tread very carefully with what I share here, but I’ve been actively dealing with the Aurora Police Dept for two months now on a fix n flip that the crazed, drug induced evicted former owner keeps breaking back into. I don’t yet know Deputy Parker, but I now know his Lt commander and many of the other men and one woman officers. They’re all very frustrated by the political climate and lack of support. I have many detailed anecdotes I could share here regarding this situation, but the most bizarre was me entering, unarmed, and clearing the property of my suspected trespasser all while 8 members of Aurora SWAT stand outside to watch as backup. Thankfully, he wasn’t still inside. However, this strange new climate impresses upon me that, if so inclined, I could probably “disappear” this nuisance and they would never care.

Comments at the end of the article lead me to believe that there is going to be a sharp rise in renter/homeowner self-defense shootings. All that was needed for the crazy man to create the “reasonable fear” situation and be eligible for a dirt nap is for the fire department not to rescue the persons trapped in the bedroom and for the criminal to break through the door. Except, of course, the shooter will still immediately be arrested, jailed, and indicted even if the shooting is completely justified. This is the emerging DA policy for public safety and it is cynically intended to limit the amount of riot damage from enraged POCs and their white sponsors/enablers.
Better get back into the classroom and make sure your understanding of the difference between a “good” and “bad” shooting is airtight.
Probably a good idea to add that camera accessory that you have been considering for your home defense weapon as well.
Saying this is not a dig on police officers. They are between a rock and a hard place in this situation. You could tell that by how carefully coached the Deputy Chief’s statement was. This is community policing by activist groups, city lawyers, and spineless politicians. Given the political leanings of the local population, this is going to be their new reality for awhile.
This is exactly what the left has been demanding.
