The 101 Best Pizzas in America (affirmative action for pizza?)
The Daily Meal ^ | Taylor Rock

Posted on 09/14/2020 12:32:00 PM PDT by ConservativeStatement

Pizza is always there for you. At your eighth birthday party with all your friends and that clown, it was there for you. During your late-night college cram sesh, it was there for you. After a long day of work, a hot cheesy slice was there to comfort you — and maybe a bottle of wine too.

Pizza is a staple of American meals, which means it’s pretty easy to come across. It can sometimes feel like there is a pizzeria around every corner, but there’s just something about a great pizza. Here is where to find the 101 best pizzas in America.

Kirkland cheese (frozen). It has a breadflour crust.

I prefer a thin crust though...

I still haven’t found what I’m looking for... in a frozen thin crust selection.

But... Ceasar’s makes a good thin crust cheese.

Is this the place?

#16 Modern Apizza (New Haven, Connecticut)

Yes it is. Thanks for the correction. An important side note is that the original "Modern Apizza" was a pie made with good quality local American Cheese, not Mozzarella. It is not to my taste, and most customers don't order it, but it was a distinguishing characteristic from 1939 that remains on the menu, and still has a loyal following.

“All true. I ate Pizza from #38 LB Spumoni.”

I grew up a mile from there. Every time I go back to Brooklyn, Spumoni Gardens is my first stop. Then Nathans, then Brennan and Carr and then Joe’s on Avenue U and finally any Chinese takeout place.

For dessert, Cuccio on Avenue X.

“I live in SE Texas. We have a mom and pop pizza place that is owned and operated by a family who moved here from Brooklyn NY. Best around here.”

Miss Ellie’s in San Antonio is the best pizza in Texas by far. Florio’s is also good as is Little Italy.

There are many really great pizzerias in Rockford, Illinois, but if it’s still there, the downtown Capri is the best. None of that fancy buffalo mozzarella or artichokes or bison, etc., just an honest medium thin, but crunchy crust, with a thicker crust around the edges, with a sauce with a little sweetness, whatever toppings you want, with a nice lightly browned mozzarella on top. I like sweet Italian sausage (with fennel seed), onions, mushrooms, olives, and once in a while, maybe some anchovies. Where I live now, I have to make my own if I want a decent pizza.

If there is a Krogers/Smith's, or other affiliate nearby try their Private Selection pizzas.

I'm particularly fond of their Cuban inspired Ham & Swiss thin crust pizza.

OK, so a Cuban inspired German take on an American adaptation of an Italian post war desperation food does sound a little odd.

It is a little odd, but it's delicious!

Their other toppings are more traditional, but this one is special!

Don't think about the fact that it has pickles on it.

Trust me...

I would agree, except now there’s frozen Screamin’ Sicilian pizza, and it is like back home.

I don’t care for Chicago deep dish, but some of their thin crusts are really good. And my likes in Rockford Illinois, are all genuine Italian pizza restaurants, owned and operated by real Italians.

Lol. I live in Northern New Jersey about 15 minutes from NYC. There are probable 10 pizzerias within a 5 mile radius of me that are better than 90% of the places on this list.

Ha, ha. Home Run Inn, is back home for me. I ate there all the time when restaurant was a little neighborhood business (many moons ago). The place got it’s name because a home run broke through a window. There was a small baseball park across the street.
