Great article by LS! I came to FR by way of Prodigy in 96. When Jim required an email address to post in 98 it took me 6 months to decide to give him my email. We were all very leary because we supposed the govt was monitoring.

Same exact way I did, weston.
Lurked from late 1996 on Prodigy Whitewater boards, then to FR, through late 1998.
It seemed too intimidating to express yourself publicly, and there were great minds on FR back then.
I did attend the March for Justice Rally on Oct.31,1998 in DC. That was thrilling to come over a rise at the Washington Monument and see 4,000 fellow Freepers and flags waving everywhere.
That was the first of many visits to DC to stand in front on the Clinton White House in 1999 and 2000, and wave signs with the DC Chapter. Talked with a lot of tourists as well.
Finally signed up here on Dec. 30, 1998. Just made it into the Class of ‘98!
