I apologize for the vanity. I've been a freeper for well more than ten years and have never written one but I have to pull the trigger today.
While I know some attention has been paid to college football and the decision by the Pac-12 and Big Ten not to play this fall, conservatives haven't put nearly as much pressure on Big Ten governors and university presidents. There is not a more important region of the country than the Big Ten reason when it comes to President Trump being reelected.
You can choose to believe me or not but I have close connections to multiple Big Ten athletic directors. They are furious about the Big Ten's decision not to play football. This decision will cripple their athletic departments for years. All of the Big Ten athletic directors wanted to play, which is pretty well established. What isn't widely known that about half of the Big Ten presidents wanted to play, and nearly the rest were willing to play, with the exception of Northwestern and Michigan. The UM president, Mark Schlissel, is an epidemiologist by background. Those two presidents pushed through the decision and the Big Ten athletic directors were completely left out of the decision-making process.
New Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren, who came to the Big Ten from the Minnesota Vikings with no college administration experience, "represented" the athletic directors. The AD at Northwestern was on the search committee that hired Warren. This is very inside knowledge but Warren had been demoted with the Vikings. He was no longer doing contracts because he kept messing them up and he was demoted to handling the scheduling of banquets. I kid you not.
Governor Whitmer came out yesterday and doubled down on the decision not to play football. Can you imagine being the President of the University of Michigan and the governor of the state of Michigan and being so opposed to playing football? The governor is really vulnerable in this area and conservatives need to continue to attack her on this issue.
The Big Ten had announced its revised scheduled for the fall and then pulled the plug after a study was released claiming the potential for myocarditis increasing as a result of Covid. Yesterday, I study was released refuting this report. Even earlier in the week University of Michigan cardiologist Venk Murthy and head of Mayo Clinic genetic cardiologist Michael Ackerman said that date was incorrect. In the study that was released today, it was learned that a significant portion of COVID-recovered have abnormal heart scans but, in comparison to "risk factor-matched" controls, there was no statistically significant difference.
In another twist, the Big Ten commissioners son is playing this year at Mississippi State. So he feels comfortable enough to have his son play in the SEC, but the league that he leads and is destroying isn't playing.
Link the governor of Michigan and the president of the University of Michigan and pound them with the the fact that this is all about politics, and certainly not science.
This is a good vanity. It brings personal FReeper knowledge to the board, interesting details, and isn’t merely something that could have been a comment to a regular story. I post vanities infrequently, but if you mark them as such, and don’t point to your personal blog, they should be welcome as far as I am concerned.

There is going to be a “Let Them Play” rally at the Michigan State Capital this friday.
Park, middle school, high school and college kids and parents getting together to let Half-whitmer know they aren’t too happy.
There will be cheerleaders and drum lines there too.

After that, the Big 10 reversed course and announced that they couldn't have a season. Whether that decision was due to all the additional demands is unknown. But I wouldn't doubt for a second that the prospect of liability, blame, and bad press from players figured into that decision.
If POTUS repeatedly says we should be playing football, all the BIG 10 states will vote Trump. People are getting tired of this shutdown BS.

Thanks for the insight and details. Our corrupt media portrays these as easy and uniformly accepted decisions by leftist politicians - but we know its all fake, and that such major decisions are causing great anger and resentment below the surface.

I wouldn’t be at all confident that ACC/XII/SEC will play football. Just wait until the coeds arrive on campus and see how many of the testosterone fueled athletes test positive for the virus.
Interesting. Thank you. Great post. I agree with you. I’m a Spartan alum and an enthusiastic Big Ten sports fan. The Big 10 is going to regret this decision. I believe it will set the entire league back for many years in terms of finances, recruiting, and prestige.
The SEC and Big 12 should band together and open their doors to any Big 10 and Pac 12 schools that want to join.
They can form a huge league with 15 game schedules, playoffs and a Super Bowl in the format of the NFL.
Then withdraw from the NCAA, write their own rules, pay their players, create their own television and radio networks, do things exactly the way they want to do them and be done with a lot of nonsense.

I’ve been harping on the local sports radio management (an ESPN affiliate) and they still won’t discuss it. They act like they’re happy to see COVID kill all sports.
There’s a very disappointing oversupply of PC in sports media.
Given the 10-2 sentiment in favor of playing the BIG10 season, and lawsuits coming, I don’t think the story is over, although time is short.
Outkick / Fox with Clay Travis and Jason Whitlock is different. In fact, Big 10 commissioner Kevin Warren was Whitlock’s agent. Whitlock is spot on straight up and says he always felt Warren wants to succeed Roger Goodell and his career path via the Big10 was a good stepping stone. So, the silver lining is that Warren will never run the NFL.
These conferences won’t let a positive test result cancel a season. In fact, I expect fans in the stands before all is said and done.
