The purchase marks the first time since 1992 that advanced fighter jets have been sold to the island and is likely to spark reproach from China, which has repeatedly warned against selling advanced weaponry to an island it considers its own territory.
The sale, which the Pentagon announced Friday, was first floated a year ago and will be completed by late 2026. Ninety jets will potentially be sold as part of Fridays announcement.
The new F-16s are being built at Lockheeds facility in Greenville, S.C.

Let’s be smart about this and limit the number to 1000.
At least for the price we should be allowing Taiwan to have them with a BOGO specoal! :)
Throw in another couple of hundred for free just to scare the hell out of the chicoms........
and a couple of small nukes preset to go to single locations. One for Wuhan.
So then they should be happy to get the planes, right? Since Taiwan is just a part of China.
Lease them an Ohio Class sub, fully loaded w/trained crew for $1 a month.
p
These are NEW construction, advanced versions of the F-16 and likely better than anything China has today.
I'm not so sure. J-20 has thrust vectoring nozzles. That would create a wild ride
China is asshoe.
We need to sell them some trident missile capable submarines.
Currently, the J-20 is under powered as the Chinese haven't completed development of the engines the airframe was designed for. So for now, anyway, it can't achieve the kind of performance it was designed for. What it does have going for it is a very low radar cross section from the front, but from the side and the rear, it is not so great. Certainly not at the level of US stealth platforms. The Indians reported tracking J-20's over Nepal last week with 4th Generation Russian Su-30MKI AESA radar, something that would not happen against F-22 or F-35's.
Attack subs are what they really need. Taiwan is building an indigenous series of subs, but the first one won't be commissioned before 2026. Hopefully they build a bunch as they only have four.
Radar, avionics and fire control are now more important than “performance”.
Many may disagree with this, but I say we sell Taiwan maybe 24 F-35s (Marine Version), lets say they happen to build am Air Capable Ship to hold them and then we act like we didn’t know that they were building such a ship at the time of sale as we would have Plausible Deniability.
Let the godless virus plagued CCP Communists weep and howl, lets protect Taiwan from the rising Xi Jinping evil,
Thanks.
I think that we should sell them the F35Bs and and PDJT should ceremonially hand over the keys to Tsai Ing-Wen in person on live TV.
