Trump says spike in crime, high taxes could help him win New York in 2020 election [NY Post print edition headline: "NEW YORK IS IN PLAY - Prez says he has a shot at home state"]

President Trump said during an exclusive Oval Office interview on Thursday that his campaign is “putting New York in play” against Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Trump told The Post that he believes a spike in violent crime and high taxes can help him win his home state in an upset against Biden and running mate Kamala Harris.

“Over the last six months what’s happened is insane. It’s insane. So we’re going to try very hard to win New York and that will be the first time — is that since Ronald Reagan, I guess? Since Ronald Reagan,” Trump said.

“I will bring down taxes and I’ll make sure that New York City is a safe place. I mean, this is one of our cherished — this is a cherished diamond of this country. And we can’t let this happen to New York.”

If true, maybe his coat tails will take out AOC.

If Trump can get 22 or 23% of nyc vote , he could make it interesting. LI, Westchester and upstate will go Trump. At least he could make RATS spend in NY. People are pissed at commie DeDlasio and Cuomo has blood on his hands for killing seniors.

When all he has to do is win 4 key battleground states why would he focus on a state that he lost by 22 points in 2016? The truth: He isn’t. He’s just trolling.

“do you get tired of being so glass half empty thinking?:

No, political realism says his campaign money should be concentrated on the battleground states which are absolute necessities for either party to win. I don’t think Dems are going to waste spending campaign funds on Texas just as I think Trump is savvy enough to know not to waste his time on deeply blue New York or California, particularly when both states may access mail in ballots to skew vote totals.
He knows he will be getting the best bang for his buck spending time and money in purple or slightly blue states

Pipe dream. I went on the Upper West Side FB page created to talk about the crime, homelessness etc. that is plaquing that part of town. Was curious how they think. 99% of the people blame Trump and get this most think not enough money is being spent on blacks, homelessness etc. if you want to read bleeding heart liberals in action. 95% of NYC is far left liberals and unless you carry NYC you will never get the state.

Maybe so, but then again maybe not?
You're quoting an UWS FB page, which will obviously be leftist biased ... believe me, I know some of these ppl personally and yes they're mostly a bunch of lame liberals .. but scratch below the surface and there are plenty of fed-up NYC ppl in all the boroughs who have had enough of Cuomo and deBlasshole and how they've ruined what was recently a beautiful renaissance of a great city into a shithole of what it was in the 60's 70's and 80's ... can you say "silent majority" ??

Okay, you may be right. But I still like that Trump dares to speak the “impossible”! Who knows, we may be surprised.

“I went on the Upper West Side FB page”

no doubt it’s 99% ... anyone who thinks differently will be hounded into oblivion so no one who has a different opinion bothers ... pages like that are like going to the democrat underground website to see what democrats in general believe ...

I doubt it. Too many foreign minds in NY hate the U.S.A. too much to vote for a good president. Send ‘em back!

Just like with CA..its Los Angeles County and San Francisco that makes CA a commie state..take LA and San Fran out of the mix and its pretty Conservative..but LA County has the largest illegal alien population and of course they all vote Dem

I can imagine the total melt-down on CNN and others if Trump were to take NY. I think they may very well melt-down if he takes Minnesota or even Nevada.

New York is in play just like media always says Texas is in play. Not gonna happen.

I used to say that about Pennsylvania and Iowa. The realignment is still working itself out.

Trump should be cruising toward a 45+ state landslide based on his achievements and the insanity of his opposition.

political realism says his campaign money should be concentrated on the battleground states which are absolute necessities for either party to win

"Political Realism" went out the window in 2015 when Trump rode the escalator announcing his candidacy for POTUS .. ever since that moment it's been mayhem for the 'political scientists' (a misnomer if ever there was one - Politics is NOT 'science' !!! /laughs) ... from that moment onward Trump has ruled the media just by his outrageous behavior, they HAVE to report on him for better or worse, he's got the bully pulpit and he makes headlines, and it's driving them crazy !!!

Campaign money isn't even an issue ... statements such as the OP makes headlines, the media can't resist ... who needs campaign money when your campaign is playing the opposition like a fiddle ?? /grin

Newsflash: New York is NOT Trump’s home state. His official residence is Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, future congresswoman Laura Loomer’s district (FL-21) where he and Malania will gladly vote for her election, as well as his own. Just for clarification.

He doesn’t have to win NYC.....Reagan won New York by getting around 40% there.Problem is Trump got around 10-20% of the vote last time there...excluding staten island.

and we have seen many Dave beating Goliath type happenings at times so you can stick with your “political realism” but I think Trump sees David type opportunities and states things like he did about NY as an overture as he picks up his stones and slingshot in preparation.

I like that Trump has mindset he can do more than most people think is possible, it’s why he keeps accomplishing more and coming back from more setbacks of all kinds than anyone else I can think of.

Through all his political fight for the USofA since 2015 and since getting into Presidency, all the media’s family assualts and personal attacks on him, he has also lost many people dear and close to him some he could not even attend their service, and now his brother sick again, and yet he keeps saying I’m gonna kill the giant and selecting stones :)

Trump will wisely spend money where most needed but he also spent on what the media thought were “no way” places last election too and won most of them.

Bingo :)
