How deeply have you researched his methodology in ascribing historical dates back to, say, Solomon’s completion of the First Temple, or from thence back to the end of Noah’s Flood, to form your opinion of James Ussher’s grasp of historical events?

His 17th century approach is easy to find:
Ussher chose October 23rd for his moment of Creation as, under the old calendar, it was the autumn equinox, a traditional start to the year. He believed the 23rd would have been a Sunday, as time would surely have begun on the first day of the week, and he specified the previous evening, as traditionally this was when each day began.

“Current theories on the creation of the Universe state that, if it was created at all and didn’t just start, as it were, unofficially, it came into being between ten and twenty thousand million years ago. By the same token the earth itself is generally supposed to be about four and a half thousand million years old.
These dates are incorrect.
Medieval Jewish scholars put the date of the Creation at 3760 B.C. Greek Orthodox theologians put Creation as far back as 5508 B.C.
These suggestions are also incorrect.
Archbishop James Usher (1580-1656) published Annales Veteris et Novi Testamenti in 1654, which suggested that the Heaven and the Earth were created in 4004 B.C. One of his aides took the calculation further, and was able to announce triumphantly that the Earth was created on Sunday the 21th of October, 4004 B.C., at exactly 9:00 A.M., because God liked to get work done early in the morning while he was feeling fresh.
This too was incorrect. By almost a quarter of an hour.”

“God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players,* to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won’t tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

* i.e., everybody.”

In my comment, I was nly addressing the historical aspect, which is separate from the scientific aspect. And you did not answer my question as to the basis of arguing that Ussher had no grasp of history in the time frame that I defined for you.

The timeframe isn't 6024 years, but nice try.

Still no answer to my question. The matter of when the world/universe was created. The issue is whether or not Ussher had a clear understanding of history and verifiable dates, recognized as good scholarship by learned researchers not only then but now.

Your thesis is this:

Bishop Ussher's timeline is neither history nor science, and has no bearing on either.

Prove to me that from the end of Noah's flood until his time, Ussher's historic account of civilization was in any way seriously wrong. If you can't do that, then at least part of your thesis is wrong.

I am a scientist in matters that can be observed, and have degrees in it. Right now I am examining your statements to see if they are reliable. So far, in this one you haben't come up to snuff, in my view. Prove me wrong.

Correction to Post #49:

The matter is not of when the world/universe was created. The issue is whether or not Ussher had a clear understanding of history and verifiable dates . . .

Goblekli Tepe is 12,000 years old. The matter is, he didn’t have a verifiable date for the beginning of the Earth. Again, nice try.

I don’t have to prove anything to you, furthermore, it’s clear there is no evidence or proof you’d accept anyway. Clearly you should be using your “science degrees” instead of wasting perfectly good Charmin.

You just did. You proved that you can’t or won’t back up your stated opinion when challenged.
