Later once they got the capsule up on the recovery ship in the live broadcast the techs were taking samples outside the capsule while our guys were still inside just to be sure. The readings they saw were 3 to 5 part per million of NTO which is well under the LD50 dose in the 300s range I still wouldn’t want to breathe even a few ppm of nitric acid which is what nitrogen tetraoxide degrades nearly instantaneously in a humid atmosphere too such as ssummer time in humid Florida. NTO is nasty stuff as well. Im just glad our guys got home and now we have manned space flight proven in the USA again it was a travesty that we let our capabilities slid but that’s on the Kenyan.
