Two new studies, though from different parts of the world, have arrived at the same conclusion: that young children not only transmit SARS-CoV-2 efficiently, but may be major drivers of the pandemic as well.
The first, which was published in JAMA yesterday, reports findings from a pediatric hospital in Chicago, Illinois. The second, a preprint manuscript awaiting peer review, was conducted in the mountainous province of Trento, Italy.
The Chicago study examines the concentration of the SARS-CoV-2 in the nasopharynx, or the upper region of the throat that connects to the nasal passages, of children and adults. According to the results, children 5 years and younger who develop mild to moderate Covid-19 symptoms have 10 to 100 times as much SARS-CoV-2 in the nasopharynx as older children and adults.

It’s exactly reinventing the wheel. Children are pretty robust at recovering from viral illness. I have seen a ton of kids with fevers of 103 who six hours later are playing like nothing happened. The children tend to cope much better with virus then adults. It’s why we get all the viruses as a kid and develop an adult immune system with memory
This fear porn will hurt more people. Yes kids may get it and transmit it more efficiently but remain entirely without symptoms. So if we understand this study the kids shake it off and become immune. Kids getting sick are a large part of actual herd immunity. Remember kids have almost no sequelae or risk with this particular cold.
By keeping schools closed and not allowing the way nature or God intended for immunity to develop we are only prolonging and worsening the pandemic.

I scanned the article and read the comments. One comment pointed out what I had already thought about: it could take a lot more virus to make a young kid show symptoms, and very few children would manage to get there. But the few that did would have higher virus loads, but that does not show that these rare children are efficient spreaders, and even if they are, they may be so rare that they can’t have much effect. Also pointed out was that all the children in the study were already in the hospital and it was a very small number studied.

If you actually read these studies, there are a lot of weasel words like “ probable” or “ possible”. They do NOT comfortably explain the surge in child infections DURING LOCKDOWN. Kids are getting it from their famiies,
1. Sample size too small.
2. The conclusion is only an inference, it does not demonstrate that children within the parameters of their symptoms (which always seem to be mild to asymptomatic) wind up spreading the virus (physically releasing a contaminating viral load) merely because their systems seem to be less affected than adults by higher virus counts in their respiratory system.
3. A system that can continue to be asymptomatic or with just a mild illness, with a higher virus count than others, is a system that is REACTING LESS to such a count, and NOT LIKELY to be more of a point of contagion than others. The symptoms we demonstrate is how we demonstrate our reaction to the virus. Small kids are not demonstrating greater symptoms, in spite of carrying a higher viral count. By not demonstrating greater symptoms, they are not greater at ejecting viral loads on others.
Sweden has nine months of practical experience with their schools open. I think Sweden is the best practical social laboratory on the subject of schools being open with the Wuhan Virus available. Swedish data does not support the inference of the study. If the inference was correct, then teachers and school administrators in Sweden would rank among the highest professions in terms of infection. They don’t.
