First-time jobless claims drop after two weeks of increases

The number of claims last week was roughly 1.2 million, about 2459,000 less than the previous week

The number of first-time state jobless claims last week was roughly 1.2 million, about 249,000 less than the previous week and a decline after two straight weeks of increases, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

Last week’s total was also the lowest total since mid-March, the start of the coronavirus pandemic that shuttered much of the U.S. economy.

The State Department’s acting inspector general resigned Wednesday, roughly two months after his predecessor was ousted.

Acting inspector general Stephen Akard resigned Wednesday and will reportedly return to the private sector.

“We appreciate his dedication to the department and to our country,” the department said in a statement. Deputy inspector general Diana Shaw will serve as the new acting inspector general after Akard leaves Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Trump removed Akard’s predecessor, Stephen Linick, after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo complained about his poor performance.

Democrats and others allege Linick was forced out because his government watchdog office was investigating allegations of impropriety by Pompeo.

The Democrat-controlled House on Monday issued subpoenas to four Pompeo aides, arguing the administration is stonewalling its investigation into Linick’s firing.

Overnight on 5–6 Aug, another riot was declared by Portland Police after #antifa tried to break into the east precinct (far from downtown). They barricaded & set fire to the front of the building. One of the rioters tried to run over officers using a truck.

After #antifa were dispersed by police following the attack on the East Precinct, they tried to blind a woman at her home with lasers and attacked her.

Antifa have gone into residential parts of the city after moving on from attacking federal courthouse.

The rioters came to her home in middle of the night & assaulted her. They demanded she remove the armband or they would remove it for her. This is after they set fire to the east precinct.

Trump outraises Biden in July, after two months of falling short

President Trump, his re-elect campaign and the Republican National Committee in July raised more money than Democratic presidential rival Joe Biden.

For the last two months, Biden raised more than the sitting president.

Trump’s 2020 campaign and the RNC reported $165 million in campaign donations last month, more than was raised during any month of the 2016 election, according to the campaign.

The campaign has pivoted to online fundraising events, the largest one of which took place in July.

The Democratic National Committed and the Biden campaign reported bringing in $140 million in July, with 97% coming in the form of small dollar donors. The average contribution was just under $35, according to the campaign.

The Trump campaign also sized up, bringing on 300 field staffers to enhance the president’s ground game. The Trump reelection effort is now employing 1,500 people.
