Americans Can’t Stop Mask Debating
Kottke ^ | 7/29/20 | Jason Kottke

A compilation of TV news clips of people saying “mask debate” (which sounds very much like another unrelated word when spoken — try saying it out loud right now to see what I mean), stitched together by the folks at Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. It feels good to laugh at infuriating things sometimes.

BTW, the actual debate over masks will continue to wane - science and then culture will win most people over and it’ll just become a normal thing that most people do in public all the time, like wearing shoes or carrying a bag.

I forgot about the insane, so, yes ... there is that. Thanks for the reminder.

“Masks are moderately effective (70 to 90%) in short-term risk situations such as grocery store shopping to prevent the spread of Covid to strangers.”

I’d LOVE to see the evidence. Because what I cannot get around is this: In states that have required masks to stop the spread of COVID, the virus doesn’t even slow down. It doesn’t even make a hiccup in the spread.

Incubation period is 5 days on average. It would then take perhaps a week for the numbers - data tracking - to show a genuine cut. No reason why it would take over 15 days to show results. And in state after state, that has not happened. Not even in 30 days.

We now have TONS of evidence on how effective masks are at cutting the spread of the virus in the real world, using what is now well-over 50 million people in the experiment.

AND IT FAILED!

exDemMom, do you actually TRUST research done in the age of Trump? I read the studies done prior to 2019 and they showed no effectiveness. But if Trump says no masks, then how does the medical world respond? With BS studies that contradict everything learned during the previous 30 years!

And in the laboratory of the real world, we’ve SEEN how effective they are at cutting the spread - ZERO! State after state has mandated it. People have obeyed. And it didn’t have ANY effect. The spread didn’t even hiccup!

Because requiring healthy people to wear masks is a self-evidently false solution. Fauci himself said so early on, before Big Pharma reminded him which side his bread was buttered on..

So the cultures that routinely wear masks contract less flu and common cold than we do? I thought that they wore them in cities To protect against pollution, were asthmatic or maybe they were just paranoid. We need more studies but we won’t get them That are truthful. Science is not science anymore.

I really don’t know specifically, perhaps it’s a type of Godzilla syndrome borne out of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima experience.

“Your virtue signalling is ... well, I was going to say “nauseating” ... but I won’t. But as long as it makes you feel smug ... good for you.”

How would I nicely respond? It must be a differing opinion based on a copious amount of service related NBC training and the stress that is placed on PPE.

The troops must use PPE with the goal of retaining a sizable force at the end of the pipe.

Even your vaunted CDC admits they death rate is around 0.2%. And Fauci and Birx have changed course so many times they have lost all credibility. as have you.

I’m not the tiniest bit concerned about whether my masks will catch anything at all. I want to be able to breathe during those times when I am forced to wear a mask. Cheesecloth is the best and cheapest material that I’ve found.
