WATCH: Gov. Cuomo Declares Chicken Wings Aren't 'Substantive Food'

The Wuhan coronavirus lockdowns have produced the spectacle of politicians unilaterally deciding what businesses are essential, what products these so-called essential businesses may sell, and -- now in New York -- which foods are considered "substantive" for purposes of selling alcohol.

In New York, as in many other states, bars are required to have food available as a condition for selling alcohol. But during the current lockdowns, Gov. Cuomo made a new rule requiring patrons to purchase a food item in order to purchase an alcoholic beverage. The requirement is reportedly aimed at reducing curbside boozing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bars struggling to stay solvent during the lockdowns are now being told by the governor which of their food items are considered to be "substantive" foods and which are considered to be mere snacks. And according to the governor, chicken wings don't make the cut.

"To be a bar, you had to have food available - soups, sandwiches, etc. More than just hors d’oeuvres, chicken wings. You had to have some substantive food — the lowest level of substantive food were sandwiches," Cuomo said during a briefing on Thursday.

Likewise Tom Wolf is being widely ridiculed here for putting out a massive screed on what does and does not constitute a meal.

Very much so. I was always pretty trim, but back from 2008-2010, I spent a LOT of time on the road for work, and was eating a lot of fast food, which also coincided with turning 40, and gained a lot of unwanted weight. I didn't do much about it until 2014 when I started this diet. I lost about 25-30 lbs in the first 4-5 months to get where I needed/wanted to be. I've been doing it for maintenance pretty much ever since. I'll give myself a cheat day once every 7-10 days, but really the carbs lose a lot of their allure when you become accustomed to living without them.

It wasn't just a diet choice, but I've also become very disciplined about getting 8 hours of sleep time (I usually wake up after about 7, but I allocate myself a full 8). I think that has had as much to do with the weight loss as diet.

Sleep is huge, as it’s when you heal. I make sure to get 7-9 a night myself. I train a lot with weights and sprinting, and being 45, I need all the recovery help possible.

Flick Lives :" Typical of a bureaucrat who has never held a real job, they love to micromanage what they know nothing about."

Besides becoming a "Dick-tater", Cuomo now is :
an epidemiologist,
a nutritionist,
a chef of 'haute cuisine',
and poor folk bar meals don't count unless it includes pasta and garlic bread (!).
I tell you : 'It's just class warfare !'

Il Duce was rumored to be infuriated by the Cuomo Chips thing.

Yep, he is as thin skinned as they come due to his ignorance and low self esteem. He surrounds himself with yes people. Frankly, Bars should simply sell mini hot dogs and call them Cuomo Little Richards.

"Don’t call them wings, just call them mini Chicken steaks or something..."

I was working in a very rural area of western Louisiana once and stopped in a gas station. They had a basket of hard boiled eggs next to the cash register with a little sign that said, "Boneless Chicken Dinner $1."

Meanwhile...

Cuomo violated his own mask rules while in Georgia, declined to self-quarantine on return to N.Y. The governor cited his status as an 'essential worker' to avoid self-quarantining
