Georgetown senate publicly condemns student for rejecting Black Lives Matter movement

The Georgetown University Student Senate voted in favor of a resolution denouncing a conservative student’s blog post. William Torgerson, a student at Georgetown University, wrote a blog post called A Nation of Virtuous Individuals in which he condemned the Black Lives Matter movement. He also made another blog post - which is now-deleted but the GUSA had obtained screenshots of - where he wrote that “being depressed is not normal.”

In the most recent post, Torgerson wrote that “Black Lives Matter is a movement entirely based in unfalsifiable ideological possession, and it does not deserve your support.”

Georgetown Senate voted to denounce factual statements and engage in political bigotry. And they call this an “institution of higher learning” - they are clueless being taught by the clueless.

Just think how much he and his parents paid to get treated like this.

As a Georgetown alumnus (1983), I am utterly disgusted by the direction that the university itself, and its student body, have taken in recent years.

The fact of the matter is that BLM’s creators are self-avowed Marxists, and that the organization doesn’t actually give a damn about ALL black lives, only those about which it can make a big stink and garner lots of donations. In other words, it is just like the ACLU and NOW, it is just another Leftist political organization masquerading as a “good cause,” which is to say that they are a bunch of self-interested whores...

...and the book-smart but common-sense deficient jackasses in the GU student senate are buying their BS. Or, to paraphrase those world-class philosophers from worthy to be nominees for the “Upper Class Twit of the Year.”

Hope he wears this as a badge of honor. There is nothing wrong about being hated by fools and racists.

“Just because they passed a resolution doesn’t make it any less right than the majority of the people voting to steal your property.”

As both a Georgetown alumnus and the grandson of a refugee from the USSR, I am particularly sensitive to this topic. My grandfather’s father had all of his property (except for his home) stolen by the Communists (no vote required or requested); years later, when he was 73 and suffering from cancer, he had no money with which to buy food (and lived in the Ukraine, where there was an engineered famine in progress), so he rented out 3/4 of the house...and someone wasn’t happy with that, so the NKVD dragged him away and he was beaten nearly to death; the next year, for no apparent reason other than “because,” they dragged him away again, and this time beat him so badly that he died - IOW, they murdered him. So I have not the slightest degree of sympathy in my body or mind for Communism or any of its sister Leftist/collectivist ideologies; quite the opposite - I have a burning, white-hot hatred for it.

Perhaps because I am Jewish, I was immune from the poisonous influence of the Jesuits who teach there and run the place - my observations then and now are that they are largely out of touch with reality, insulated by their place in the Church and in an educational institution, and without family. They may be good Catholics (and I’ll leave that up to Catholics to judge), but they are very poor at learning and imparting the lessons of History, and the idiocy and Leftist bent of the current student body as represented by its Senate is a reflection of that.

Should be:

Or, to paraphrase those world-class philosophers from Monty Python’s Flying Circus, they are worthy to be nominees for the “Upper Class Twit of the Year.”

I agree 100%. In this life you are not only judged by whom your friends are, but also by those who are your enemies. These are good people to be your enemy, because they are scum of the Earth.

“An attack on his free speech.. Lawsuit.”

Won’t work:

1) Private university;

2) This was the Student Senate, not the university itself; and

3) The didn’t stop him from publishing anything, they merely condemned what he did publish (which is their free speech right to do).

Yet there are idiots here who still think that THEIR brand of socialism/communism won’t be like ALL the others.

Absolutely (both what they think, and the fact that they are, in fact, idiots).

All of the various stripes of collectivism share basic features, whether they are Italian Fascists, German Nazis, Russian/Chinese/East German/Cuban/North Korean Communists or American Leftists (who haven’t yet worked up the guts to declare themselves to be Communists). As one of my Russian cousins told me when I asked him 25 years ago, “what is it like to live a life without Communists in charge?” ... “Same wall, different wallpaper.” Underneath, they are all the same - ignorant, jealous, intolerant, filled with hatred - and waiting for some strongman to tell them what to do, because they haven’t any courage to take on life on its own (or their) terms.

BTW, a hundred years ago Lenin talked about these people: he called them “useful idiots.” [I call them “useLESS idiots]. They were the naive, ignorant followers who gave mass to the force behind the Russian Revolution, but who were easily led and, in the end, were forgotten (if they were lucky) or disposed of in the Gulag or in a shallow grave somewhere in the forest. Today’s useful idiots are little different from the ones Lenin spoke of: Lenin’s spoke Russian and weren’t a bunch of coddled, spoiled snowflia

It’ll get laughed out of court, and the lawyer filing it may get sanctioned. Better for him to spend his effort writing more articles that piss off the Leftists.

As a Georgetown alumnus (1983), I am utterly disgusted by the direction that the university itself, and its student body, have taken in recent years.

It started the year GU installed its first lay (non-priest) president, early to mid 00s. The next year, if I recall, an African bishop came to give the commencement address, in which he spoke of the danger to society of setting aside traditional the Catholic view of sexuality and family. Several of the female faculty got up in a huff and stormed off the platform in full view of all the graduates and their parents.

The following year,GU formed its Gay-Straight Alliance and held a “Sex Positive Week” on campus, with all sorts of perverse displays. Soon after, there was that Georgetown Law student who went before Congress complaining that GU should pay for her birth control...

As this started ramping up, the Exorcist novelist William Peter Blatty tried to start an alumni and donor push-back, and challenged the school to stop calling itself Catholic, but it never went anywhere, and now he’s been dead for years.

Sad what has happened to our alma mater. This is what happens after multiple decades of giving away education to the Leftists - we lose. I wonder if we’ll ever get back to balanced discourse at universities - and short of a civil war that our side wins, I don’t see that happening. We lost the Culture War because we never understood that we were being attacked.
