Timing of this in "interesting".
I don’t use coins, I hardly ever use cash. It’s not necessary. I don’t write checks either.
It’s a “digital” world, join the current century.
Yeah, saw a sign on a 7-11 counter about 2 weeks ago.
I have yet to see this here in SW Pennsylvania. All the parking meters out here take quarters only. Went to Dairy Queen today paid cash with no problems. Why are all the mints closed down?
Yep.
Coins? Crap, have you tried getting ammunition lately?
Our local trap club may have to shut down.
“But just so you know, Im hoarding quarters for the laundromat :-)”
Have you got them stacked up next to all that toilet paper you’ve got?
Just got back from the grocery store. the bill was $96, so I whipped out a $100 bill. The kid said there was a coin shortage and asked if I wanted to round it up.
There’s a mint here in Denver. We toured it when I was in grade school.
My daughter and I went to a 5 Below store Wednesday and there was a sign on the register that stated “due to the nation-wide coin shortage, if you are paying in cash exact amount would be appreciated.”
You probably will not find anything of collectors value.
I had a couple of coins that I took into a coin dealer. There was one nickel I got 10 cents for. I got a couple dollars for some large Mexican coins with a high silver content. That was from a 50 year old collection.
Local Fred Meyer (Kroger) has self serve coin sorters. I think they take 3%. Our credit union is free for members.
“If I cashing in all the coins in my coin jars, I could remedy this situation.”
Well, certainly if I added mine. I would have taken them to the bank, but I don’t want to seem weird rolling a wheel barrow into the lobby.
Will Banks take rolled coins now ?
Yes another instance of “not letting a crisis go to waste.” One of their goals is to do away with currency. This is a trial run.
I’m sorry. I throw change in a bowl and take it to the bank when it overflows. Banks are drive-through only so that’s a pain.
Those are old coins though, I pay for everything with a credit card these days. Just like the cash haters want us to.
Interesting how that’s working out for them.
I have a small savings account at a local bank that has a change machine, so I don’t have to pay a fee.
Nice response.
I have. Some stores have signs.
They want cash eliminated so they can track you better.
Or cut you off easier.
1. One or more U.S. mint facilities have shut down intermittently since March due to COVID-19.
2. Banks have limited their lobby operations, so people aren't cashing in their change to the extent they usually do.
3. Many supermarkets shut down their coin-change machines as a precautionary measure.
