Wow! I have never heard that story before about the bad batch of polio vaccine.

Yeh, after the trial, the mass innoculations had to be halted after 1 month. After the temporary suspension, other labs continued the program.
Between 1923 and 1953 (before the Salk vaccines introduction), the polio death rate in the U.S. had declined on its own by 47 percent. England had observed a similar pattern, with a 55 percent decline.
Following the use of Salks vaccine between 1955 and 1963, however, cases of polio in the U.S. increasedby 50 percent from 1957 to 1958 and by 80 percent between 1958 and 1959.16
The early program was entirely voluntary. At our school, your parent had to sign a permission slip in order to receive the shot.
There has been continuing problems with the oral polio vaccine-Not only can OPV trigger vaccine-strain polio in recipients, it can also cause polio in those who come in contact with recently vaccinated individuals due to shedding of live vaccine-strain poliovirus in bodily fluids.
In validation of this very theory, Dr. Salk testified before a Senate subcommittee in 1977 that the oral polio vaccine had caused most of the polio cases in the U.S. since the early 1960s.
FEAR PORN was used back then to make the disease seem worse than it was—just like now. The worst cases were hyped while the minor symptoms cases were kinda ignored. The definition of what constituted a case was changed and the change made the vaccine seem more effective than it was.
Just another manipulated history.
The things I don’t know... Thank you for the information.
Your cherry picked so called facts against all vaccines are essentially fake news because you leave out things like actual numbers and cost/benefit ratio.
I had three classmates crippled by polio epidemics in the 1950s. The cancers supposedly caused by the salk vaccine are rare....I saw no cases in 40 years of practice, except for one osteosarcoma I saw in medical school...I did see cases of mesothelioma in shipyard workers and others exposed to asbestos, but no cases without that history.
As for the oral vaccine causing polio, in the US it caused a dozen cases a year when the virus mutated back to full strenghth, usually in contacts not the kid who was vaccinated. But that is why they now give shots to the kids to prevent polio.
This problem in the third world is something docs worry about, but that nuanced argument is too long and off topic to discuss here.
