As more demands are made for structural and systemic changes around policing, incarceration, housing, health care, employment and education, there is much to be hopeful for as the nation struggles to create a new democracy out of its collective action.

I maintain that there is no racism in America. There is not a single law on the books that discriminates against “people of color”. There are laws that make it illegal, however.

“Discussion about race” means white people shut up or get doxxed or fired.
If a white person ventures an opinion (other than parroting the officially accepted rostrums) he is in danger of being accused of racism, no matter how well-intentioned his remarks. It could mean losing his job. So naturally the smart thing for white people to do is to shut up. The short-term prospects for improved race relations are therefore next to non-existent.
Talking about race with a liberal is a minefield that could cost you your livelihood, reputation and everything. And what you say today that’s okay maybe construed tomorrow as intolerable racism. The only safe position is total agreement and even that’s not guaranteed.
I’m not going to talk about race with anyone except my resident family members. No percentage in it.
The answer is because in reality racism today is mostly a product of race hustling which Americans know has no credibility.
If someone interrupts me and says “let’s talk about ‘X’, and I like and/or respect the person interrupting me, then I’ll go along with it and talk about X.
But if it’s someone I think has an agenda based on lies, then I will keep going and not give the time of day to that person.
My brother-in-law lost his job a couple of weeks ago because of “insensitive” social media content. Why a 62-year-old man didn’t realize it was the stupidest possible time to be venting his feelings is a separate conversation we won’t have ...
