They were certain they would own the White house (and probably congress too) for all the foreseeable future.
After all - wasn't the election and coronation of The Hildebeast for two terms a sure thing?
And by the time 2024 rolled around they would have changed enough laws and granted amnesty to enough new democrats to keep republicans in the minority for 100 years.
Then in June of 2015 down the staircase came the one man who could (and did) upset their plans for the destruction of America!

That’s a good summary of the sequence of events.. I think you’re right, it was overconfidence. Also known as arrogance. They never thought Hillary would never win.
