Speaking of which, I’ll bet he had a record and was prohibited from owning a firearm. A percussion revolver like this one is an “antique firearm” and not a “firearm” subject to the restrictions of 18 USC 922.

The witnesses should suffer some legal action.

Depending on their angle, they might not have seen the gun, which was wrapped in a bandanna. Even the video becomes clearer from multiple angles and in slow motion with close-ups. Thankfully, lots of ghood video showing what happened.

Poor choice of accoutrement for someone who planning to lead a life of crime, unless he was an aspiring super-villain with a flair for the dramatic.

Never mind. This actually looks like a cartridge conversion, so definitely illegal for a nonresident or a felon to possess:

OUTSTANDING video montage put together for release to the public. It was most definitely a righteous shoot.

Cock the hammer FULLY before pulling the trigger. Don’t draw on someone who already has you in their sites.

Some of the twitter responses are jaw dropping - this gun wasn’t a real threat, so therefore officers shouldn’t have fired? I mean, come on, seriously?

Never mind. This actually looks like a cartridge conversion, so definitely illegal for a nonresident or a felon to possess:

It’s an Italian reproduction of a black powder 1872 Colt Open Top Revolver in .38 S&W Special. It fires modern .38 special non +P ammunition. This was the first purpose built Colt designed cartridge revolver made (original chambering was in .32 Colt Rimfire and Centerfire, .38 Colt Rimfire and Centerfire, and .44 Colt Rimfire and Centerfire, all in black powder. Unfortunately, the open top design was flawed as, like their predecessor cap and ball models, they tended to shoot "loose." The design only lasted for two years. It was replaced by the famous Colt Single Action in .45 Colt, .44-40 Winchester, .38-40 Winchester, and .32.20 Winchester, which had a much stronger integral top strap frame into which the barrel was screwed, ending the loose barrel problem forever.

Watching the video, what the heck is with the “protestors” trying to force or push their way next to the perp and the police doing CPR?

What the heck is their problem?

Thanks, learned something new. I’m guessing Colt used some 1851/61 parts in the 1872.
