I graduated in 79 and before I knew it, I’d slid happily right into the Mad Max/MTV 80s era.
It was awesome.
In 1980 I was hitting all the local bars with their requisite bar bands.
For some weird reason, no matter when I walked in the door, “Immigrant Song” was playing.
I sat and tolerated “KIX” back when they were a local start up at the Mountain View Inn in Smithsburg MD.
My drinking buddy spent her time throwing empty bottles at the band.
I still hate them.
I went from Turning Japanese to Working For The Weekend to full-on Rebel Yell in about three years flat. At least when I traded the skinny tie for the bandanna around the neck, it was a smooth transition. I had the hair, the seldom-played Strat knockoff, and the bandanna lasted until at least ‘88 or ‘89.
I dressed like an extra from The Road Warrior and used gallons of Aqua Net on my big hair.
:D
[oh wait, except for the hairspray, not much has changed]
I always loved the big hair. :-)
Sorry, Tom Jones was never my type. LOL
BTTT
Exactly. Every era has its problems, and maybe everyone has regrets, but overall, those days were a great time to be alive. I feel bad for my own college-age kids. How will today’s generation remember their younger days? Either rioting, looting, killing... or defending themselves from a mob... or just trying to avoid all the trouble.
Today’s generation has so much in common with the 60’s radicals. In comparison, we were the exact opposite.
Over the top? hmmm. It was just like that where I lived.
I remember those days. :)
If you still have that bandana you could use it as an improvised mandatory virus repelling face mask.
Yeah, but I don’t think I’m gonna get in that leather jacket or the pants with all the zippers on them anymore. LOL!
