Because as Iceberg Slim wrote in his autobiography “Pimp”, the way a pimp keeps his women from trying to run away or seek help is to make them forget that Lincoln ever freed the slaves.
I think the reason most people have a poor opinion of Juneteenth is because of the name, I hate the name, to me its just too ghettoish.
On the other hand I have no problem having a national holiday celebrating Emancipation. I happen to think it a huge moment in the history of the US, and ending slavery was the overriding issue that fueled the Civil War, so I have no problem have a holiday to honor it, but at least lets call it something dignified like Emancipation Day or something like that.

exactly, Lincoln is to associated with the Republican party, can't have a holiday associated with the Republican party.
My gut feeling is after the military Emancipation Proclamation that Juneteenth is about, I wonder if they rounded up the free slaves and conscripted them to work for the Union Army. The Union couldn't legally steal the slaves for cheap labor but they could free them and then conscript them to work for the yankees. ;)

So you’re argument is, we shouldn’t celebrate Emancipation because there are still moron’s living amongst us, or is it because the US is still not perfect. Using perfection as the standard for anything is an unattainable standard. Just sayin.
I had heard of Juneteenth many years ago in a book about the civil war. I am against making it a national holiday because I believe the event that caused it is so minor and isolated to one state(Texas).
However, I have believed for many years that the ending of slavery in this country was one of our greatest accomplishments and should be celebrated with a national holiday. Either Jan 31st, when the Amendment was ratified by the house and sent to the states, Dec 6, when it was ratified by the required number of states, or Dec 18, when it’s adoption to the constitution was officially recognized.
It presumes Blacks can't say "June Nineteenth".

Here in Texas we’ve celebrated Juneteenth in Mexia for decades in the usual Texas way. An afternoon of picnicking and locally produced music.
But I understand that’s not what’s happening elsewhere.
In a sane world it would mean that slavery ended and that there is no reason to use it as an excuse for failure and for killing Whitey and for extorting money from Whitey and for burning and destroying buildings.
It should be a celebration of an event that was good. Instead, they use it as a forced reminder that there was slavery, and that it was the Unforgiveable Original Sin for which there is no redemption. This is what the annual “celebration” of juneteenth is now becoming.

It’s a disgusting bone thrown by pandering politicians. People still have to take vacation days off to observe religious holidays, but this was given off as a freebie. If you look, you could find something that happened historically for every day. It doesn’t mean it has to be made a national holiday. And what will this cost employers and cities to pay for a day of non-productivity?
Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862, which was supposed to free the slaves in the Confederate states -- but not the states that remained in the Union, like Delaware and Maryland, where slavery continued until the enactment of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution on December 18, 1865. Although the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves in Texas, the slave owners in Texas never received the memo and/or there were not enough Union troops in Texas to enforce the EP, and as a result the slaves in Texas did not receive freedom until June 19, 1865, when word finally arrived in Texas that the war was over.
Are you kidding? It celebrates EMANCIPATION. Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclimation, this day, although I hate the name Juneteenth, it should be called Emancipation Day, celebrates the implementation of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclimation and the culmination of why he believed the Union should pay such a terrible cost to fight the Civil War. How can anyone believe a holiday celebrating Emancipation is not tied to Lincoln.

I still submit it wasn’t well-known until it was trumpeted by the MSM as an example of Trump’s insensitivity to racial issues.
I don’t care. We have the emancipation proclamation, black history month, MLK day, I’m told my silence is racism, that there’s ‘systemic racism’, that reparations are due, and I’ve lived through years of preference given to minorities for hiring,firing and loans.
In spite of trying to be color blind and just try to see us all as God’s kids, as humans where all lives matter - I’m presumed as insensitive and bigoted.
So, I’m well past insulted and really don’t give a shit.
I see it as an opportunity. Make it a holiday. Call it Emancipation Day. Make it everyone’s holiday. After all the emancipation of slaves was a good thing accomplished at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. We should be proud we got it done. And the Republican Party should lead the way, since it was the Republican Party that achieved emancipation. Some folks need reminding...

I too think it is a good idea to have a Holiday celebrating Emancipation...the END of slavery. This is a holiday Republicans can use to educate America about the evil slave holding Democrats. Years from now when we mature hopefully, the day will be celebrated with civil war reenactments, Lincoln address readings, Fredrick Douglas plays, and the telling of history which would include the names of the first free blacks elected to Congress (all Republicans).
A Juneteenth Holiday has only an upside for Republicans and downside for Dems.
History is on our side.
