“People still cannot visit relatives in nursing homes????”

Nope and we are experiencing it ourselves. And it’s a nightmare.

Dad’s wife was just put in a care home due to what we think is a stroke. She’s had 2 strokes and they affect her mentally, not physically. She fell, broke her collarbone and was put on Norco. A couple of days later, my dad, who is almost 92, mixed 2 meds (she’s on a gazillion because she refuses to question the doctors), and she passed out. She was out for 10 min. Back to ER, where they found some odd things. My dad is a wonderful man and thinks he can care for her, but he really can’t, so she was put in a nursing home (but don’t call it that!! Oh no, it’s rehab or Curing Home) and bam, she’s in lockdown for 2 weeks. In the meantime, she’s become a horrible, mean person screaming and yelling at my Dad on the phone. My dad’s a mental mess. Her kids are useless, so it’s up to my sisters and I to rotate weeks now caring for our dad. Her kids do not want her home and don’t want my dad caring for her. My dad, bless his heart, can take a chair and go sit outside her window.

Sorry to hear of that sad situation that you and your family are going through. The change in her behavior sounds like something has changed, meds perhaps? Hope things improve.

My mom is 96 and has been in assisted living since my dad died in 2015. Surprisingly she hasn’t complained a bit about the lockdown even for the several weeks they were confined to their apartments even for meals after care workers developed symptoms (but tested negative for covid, thankfull). Her attitude is good and now they eat together but only one person to a table, six feet apart, which I think has the side benefit of cutting down the usual level of griping and complaining ;-)

The last thing I want is for visitors to be allowed back in and someones relative ends up exposing the seniors to the virus. Temp checks should be mandatory, this is the population that should be protected because we know they are most at-risk.

Best wishes to your dad, who sounds like a fine man.

These people have no hearts. I get sick with anger reading about this stuff.

There are three kinds of heartless people, from less evil to most.

1. Those who want what they want and go get it and don’t notice that so many are hurt by their actions.

2. Those who want what they want and notice that people are hurt by their actions but don’t care, doesn’t matter to them.

3. Those who want what they want, and hurting people is part of what they want.
