Minneapolis City Council president aims to replace police department with ‘transformative new model of public safety’

The Minneapolis City Council president will vote to abolish the city's police department for a "transformative new model of public safety."

On Thursday, Lisa Bender, the Minneapolis City Council president, committed to abolishing law enforcement in the city, which is home to approximately 430,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

"Yes. We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a transformative new model of public safety," Bender said in response to Jeremiah Ellison, the son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and another member of the city council.

In an interview with local media, Bender said she believes it is possible for the council to vote to abolish the police department, though it would require "white people" to "show up in a different way."

“To do this kind of big work, we need a deeper, broader conversation than we’ve ever had before,” she said. “We need white people, like me and my neighbors, to show up in a different way.”

Everyone needs to read up on the Communist takeover of 1917 ( I won’t call it the Russian Revolution) this weekend.

Many things today have parallels to that time.

"Then read the history of 1774 and the establishment of “Committees of Safety.”"

Thank you for jogging the mind. I guess the old saying that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter always apply.

Is there enough popcorn to get us all through this transformation into insanity in Minneapolis?

Same thing happen with Charleston Heston during LA riots. Neighbors who attacked him for his stand on firearms were begging to “borrow” some of his firearms. Told them sorry but they have not been trained in their use and could hurt themselves or others.

If I owned property in the city, or a business...none of this would comfort me, and I’d prepare to leave. Either your taxes are rapidly increasing or the threat to you will escalate.

Sounds about right. Corporations will hire private security. Small business, especially retail, will wither and die in our big cities.

They should do it right now, when their streets are filled with rioters. Fire the entire department.

They should all quit and tell the city council,” BTW, we doxed all your addresses online and mentioned that all of you are big fund raisers for Trump. Have a good day!”

1. Eliminate police
2. Companies and citizens hire private security services
3. The beginning of Minarchism (The Night Watchman State)

Robert Nozick might enjoy watching this experiment work its way out.

The author Stephen Hunter wrote a novel about how a mall was taken over by terrorists. One of the shoppers was a marine sniper home on leave from Iraq. It didn’t take too long before the sniper was taking care of business while the police, led by a devotee of “progressive policing” dithered outside trying to talk with the terrorists and find out why they wanted to kill so many people. As I recall, the book was actually set in Minneapolis.

Soft Target is available in a Kindle version on Amazon. Going to read it this weekend. Thanks for the tip!

If cops are forced to abdicate their duties, neighborhoods will be protected by militias, warlords, gangs and mobsters.

I wonder how that will work out?

“....private security services ….”

But can these private security service actually force to protect their clientele?

If all they can do is blow a whistle & fill out a form, you’re just paying for your robbery or murder to be documented and logged into a database.

Ah, “transformative”. This is one of those magic words - “social” is another - that makes whatever follows unquestionable. Sure, that mob is looting and torching that store, but it’s all in the spirit of transformation into a new just society. Now shut up and bleed.

Here one feels compelled to come to the defense of what must be the most abused adjective in the English language, the word "social," used when a charlatan wants the noun to which it is applied to mean the opposite of what it does. "Social welfare," for example, wherein neither the welfare of society not its constituent individuals actually improves, but that of the administrator does; "social justice," for another, which means simply "theft."

A brilliant explanation by Billthedrill from our book. See my tagline.

The Minneapolis PD should have a 1 week “Stand Down” where they simply leave their jobs.

In fact, I’m completely in favor of all police officers in any jurisdiction where elected or appointed “leaders” call for this sort of nonsense to take a week off. I’m sure the fire fighters could use a week off as well.

If there’s anything left of the community, they will be able to pick up where they left off. Maybe the “citizens” will tar and feather their “leaders.”

Mark
