Study shows 10 times more New Yorkers had Covid-19 by April than previously counted

In an effort to figure out how many New Yorkers already had Covid-19, Department of Health staffers went into 99 grocery stores in different regions of the state in April and did finger pricks on 15,101 adult shoppers who volunteered to participate in the study. Those blood tests showed that 1,887 of them had antibodies to the novel coronavirus, meaning they had been infected in the past.

After statistical adjustment and extrapolation [Oh boy!], the researchers estimated that more than 2 million New York adults had been infected by the end of March. That's 14% of all New York adults, or 1 out of 7.

The study was posted on the pre-print server MedRXiv.org, which means it wasn't peer reviewed or published in a medical journal.

The antibody study in New York, along with other findings released last month, makes it clear there was substantial undetected spread early in the outbreak.

Health authorities in Santa Clara County, California, announced that autopsies on two residents revealed they had died of coronavirus in early to mid-January -- up to three weeks before the previously known first US death from the virus. Neither of the deceased had traveled to China.

Also, improved tracking of cases in Indiana revealed coronavirus deaths at least as early as mid-February, weeks before Indiana's first reported case in early March.

For the New York study, the researchers used an antibody test designed by the Wadsworth Center, a laboratory at the state health department. Like any test, it's not perfect: It gets false negatives about 12% of the time and false positives less than 1% of the time, according to the study. Researchers adjusted their findings to reflect those inaccuracies.

Sounds like a lot of herd immunity going on. Not a bad thing, really.

The question remains....the source of the virus for these folks. Subway, bus, cab....it’s gotta be in the filthy transportation system and apartment living. Were these working folks? or stay at home folks. The stats don’t mean much without side notes.

If ten times the number of people were infected with the Wuhan Bat Coronavirus than previously reported, than the mortality rate becomes one tenth of what has been reported.

Has Gov. Cuomo come up with a way to kill these additional people?
Just asking for a friend.

They didn’t travel to China. Okay...half of NY eats Chines food. Were restaurant occupants the source?

Those antibodies could have been generated is response to a non covid coronavirus...the science of antibody testing for this seems to be still evolving

And the denominator grows on......just like nature intended.

We never needed any of this lockdown nonsense.

Too bad for them. This is going to reduce the mortality rate massively. So much for that narrative...

Well you need 70 to 80%, maybe less if we continue to social distance and wear masks.

So 14% is 1/5 the way there, in New York. The rest of the nation has a much longer way to go.

I’m not a fan of herd immunity. The cost is too high. Let’s take as much precautions as we can, and find alternatives such as preventatives, early treatments that prevent hospitalizations and better treatments.

Nothing beyond notifying Bill and Hillary that they are about to provide testimony against them before a grand jury.

That almost always gets the Angel of Death working over time.

We all had it in feb around the super bowl

I make silver everyday and was Making about three times as much during that. My son missed one meal but nobody ever had a fever

Bottom line is -colloidal silver or silver nano particles kills all viruses and bacteria and you can make it yourself for free

This particular coronavirus really isn’t even that scary if you’re young and healthy and there’s far worse things out there such as tuberculosis and even SARS one. 1993

Slick Cuomo will inflate deaths to get more fed money. It appears stuffing all the Covid patients into nursing homes did not deliver enough money for him. And the lies just keep on coming from Cuomo. He should be prosecuted for thousands of deaths he caused. Murder one with intent....

Didn't Cuomo exhort everyone to go Chinatown to celebrate Chinese New Year? Of course, a lot of them probably took the subway . . .

That can’t be true; that would make the death rate too low to suit the left.

I’m pretty sure I had it in January. Haven’t been tested yet however.
