Palling is correct.

I vaguely remember something about "under circumstance X, the final consonant in a verb is doubled when converting it to a gerund, or {whatever the hell tense it is called when it ends in "-ing"} " ...

Can't remember all of the rule though.

When it’s a short vowel sound, you double the final consonant.

When it’s a long vowel (usually ending in e, you drop the e) and add “ing” without doubling the consonant.

mat -> matting

mate -> mating

bar -> barring

bare -> baring
