6 feet may not be far enough to stop coronavirus transmission in windy weather, study suggests

In a paper published on Tuesday in Physics of Fluids, Talib Dbouk and Dimitris Drikakis discovered that with even a slight breeze of 2.4 miles per hour, saliva can travel up to 18 feet in only 5 seconds.

“Overall, the results show that in open spaces, airborne droplet carriers can travel significantly further than the 2 meters (6 feet) recommended distance due to the wind speed,” the authors write in the study.

some weird symptoms- like all his fingers turned bright white and were freezing.

Sounds analogous to Covid Toes.

I’m still going outside. I suspect that even with wind, chances of catching this stuff in my town outdoors is still small.

NYC or some other packed urban area on the other hand, would be quite different, of course. I’d still exercise outdoors, but I might actually get it there.

Yes, I’m thinking things that happen in controlled experiments would be harder to replicate in the real world. You would have to be in just the right place, at the right time, near a carrier, with the wind blowing a certain direction, etc.

Yes, I have several quilts my great grandmother, grandmother and mother made. Also, the first one our daughter made with my help but I don’t quilt. They’re all stored away and not being enjoyed. Mother has the old quilting frame.

Yes, do display your quilt and enjoy it.

The museum in the town where my great grandparents lived and raised their family has grandma’s dress with a pretty embroidered collar.

They embroidered and tatted - lots of pillow cases and doilies. I enjoy embroidering but sewing is a chore.

Agree with the old Singers. Send daughter off to adult life with a vintage second hand one.

So much for opening up.
